It's been quite awhile since I was here last. I talked to Bill the day before he died. When I did, I wasn't too sure that I wouldn't be joining him about the same time.

Since I'm younger, I had a better chance, and I'm still here, if somewhat the worse for ware and with the demons hanging around outside the door.

I see that some of the old Cantina bunch are still here:thumbup:

I can plainly see that I'll never get cought up on all that has been happening, so it would be nice if one of you guys could PM me with a "Readers Digest" version.
Dan

Welcome back...folks tend to wander but many swing back through when they can.

Nothing's changed.

Oh...munk was a zombie for a while.

Welcome back Dan:)

I can be quite verbose at times, but it's early and I am "coffeeless" as of yet. So "welcome back" will have to do;)

That was pretty verbose actually--all I really said was Welcome back yet it took several sentences:D :o

Good to meet you Dan!

Welcome Back Dan!!!! :D  Always good too see another old timer pop back up again. I've often wondered about you and if you were well, seem to recall you had some medical problems there for a while.
Did you manage to beat them?
I'm very happy too say that this last back surgery fixed me up A-OK!!!! Walked around the block twice Friday and again today, went to a brother's birthday party yesterday!!!!
And about have our fishing tackle ready to go, one more reel to respool with 4 pound test line and we're ready to go!!!!  :D ;)
The more the weather improves the more I'll improve.
It's dayumed nice to have hope again after such a long dry spell with little to
none!!!!  :D

Yvsa,
Glad to see your on the mend. The last time I saw you we were both gimping around. Yah, I've got the crap mostly beat. Some stuff I'm stuck for...lungs, the heart stuff is fixed, some is in remission and the rest...legs, will get fixed in time. The VA does good work, but the waits for non Sc can be lengthy.

Like I said, I talked to Bill the day before he departed, but what's the story on Rusty?
Later, Dan

Glad to hear you're mostly fixed up Dan! Bill was a loud and lengthy opponent to the way the VA handles its work load and I don't think anyone here begrudged Bill his feelings. The VA can be way too much like ndn health care too much of the time by the way they handle their workload.:(
But Bill was always on the side of those he felt were being treated unfairly or out of hand and was one of the reasons everyone loved Bill.

Dan this is what I understand about Rusty's leaving us so soon after Bill did....
Not too terribly long before Bill and Rusty walked West Rusty had a really bad experience with his doctors and the hospital in Reno.
Rusty refused an angiogram and the hospital forced Rusty into having one done that they said, "was for his own good."
Come to find out though Rusty's angiogram was unnecessary and a waste of time and Rusty's money.
From that moment on Rusty hated all Drs', nurses, and hospitals as well as distrusted them beyond belief.
Then Rusty came down with a really bad cold or the flu or the like, not sure if anyone ever found out for sure just what Rusty's ailment was.
But anyway Rusty laid down on their couch in their living room and told his wife Mary that he was going to take a nap.
Mary was begging Rusty to go to the Dr./emergency room but Rusty told her that he would be fine.
Around midnight Mary went to wake up Rusty and it was too late, Rusty had already walked West.:( :( :( :(
Was it a coincidence that he left so soon after Bill or was it by Rusty's choice that he leave with his bother or so soon after?
We may never know the real truth.
I just know it was a shock too all of us and that Rusty will long be terribly missed by all of us/those who love Rusty.
Perhaps munk and a few others will chime in with their own understanding.
It's not often that two souls who are such close kin walk West so close to one another.
It still hurts way too much to talk about Bill and Rusty's leaving in the manner they chose.:(

Dan,
Welcome back - have thought of you and wondered how you were doing; glad to hear things are looking up for you.
The idea of a Reader's Digest version of events in this place gave me a good laugh - how do you summarize the Encyclopedia Britannica?:D

My Elder Yvsa has brought this up in this thread so I am going to talk about this here today, as it is now the right place and time. I have talked to Mary and Yangdu many times. Directly and indirectly I've asked this of them both. I've listened to their voices on this for nearly a year now. The anniversary of our Friends departure is about here, isn't it?

In my gut, or in my heart, or in a place too deep to know exactly where it is, or if men have a gps tracker that good, I've come to think Rusty and Bill passed together because they were meant to. More, when I think back on small clues, such as Rusty's giving away so many gifts in his final months and days, this means much. I'm not sure Rusty knew he was going. His father passed early too. And Science has it's answer- there's certainly a biological reason Rusty's body stopped working. I'll bet if I asked Rusty on that night if he was leaving he'd have said 'no'. But you know what? There is a purpose and a meaning in Life, a story, a Great Heart that is bigger than even a man's conscience. There are things bigger than Rusty's best intentions. Do you think he would have chosen to leave Mary alone in the evening years? I don't think Rusty Slate knew he was going, but I think somewhere deep in him he knew, or Some Thing deep in him knew, and our Two Friends went together.

Yangdu is certain of this.
I mentioned small clues. Along with the gift giving, Rusty never asked for help in looking past Bill's passing. Why is this strange? Rusty and I were both in the mental health field. He damn well knew Bill was passing. We'd had years to get used to the idea. Many times I reminded not only this forum of that, but it was my 'job' to let Rusty know I'd be there for him when it happened. Rusty and I 'told' each other most everything, even things I wouldn't tell my wife nor he Bill. (Let's not go into any sophomoric Freudianism over this ...Bruise??!!) He never once acted on that. This is not a selfish observation; I've not only been trained to deal with death and dying, but I've had to counsel my closest others many times in recent years. Rusty had Mary, Yvsa, Kismet, me, and others to rely upon.

The rock hard truth; he didn't open that door because he knew he was not going to need it. Somehow, somewhere, someway; he knew.

I did not rush to this at first. I placed it aside for consideration. I agree with Yangdu today though.

So all us cosmic woo woo mystics can have hey day with this. Let it pass into legend. Yes, Horatio, there are undreamt things going on in your universe you are not aware of.

I have no idea what the future is going to bring. Yangdu says nothing but good.

That's good enough for me.

Thank you for speaking your heart, Yvsa, it was time for these things.

I still picture the two of them...looking down and laughing both at and with us.

I like to think that Bill is satisfied that I took over his *old* Cantina job...

I like seeing their legacy carry on here too.

What this got to do with khukuris?

*Everything*

I have always wondered too why Uncle Bill and Rusty past west within such short period of time.....

How was Rusty like ?

I read that Munk visited Uncle Bill before his passing and Uncle Bill said that he should go pay Rusty a visit...................

He was honest and good and strong inside. He had so much Light in him, the vessel holding it cracked. The marrs of his body were unimportant and easily overshadowed by the enormous Light coming from inside, about the most I've ever seen in one man or woman.

From the little that I'd have read from Rusty's posts......he's light hearted and can turn whirlwind into gentle breeze..........

Rusty was a great guy. Very well armed, lol. When I quit drinking a few years ago, Rusty was there for me at a time when I really needed some help, was there for me without me even asking for help. I miss him just as I miss Bill, and I always kinda figured they had stuff to do together, somewhere, somehow.
