It fell... a new BM 940 (Green)...
It chipped... right at BOTH ends of the handle...
I use my blades and expect scratches and use marks...
It still made me sad...

It was so beautiful... now I have to get that over-all used look instead of that "can't believe I dropped it on pavement look..."

Off to cry...

That's rough, especially if you just bought it, but look at it this way: Scratches give character. No two are alike.

"Hypocritical"? - nope, don't sound like it.

Look at the bright side. The next time you drop it it won't hurt anywhere near as much.

I feel your pain. Dropped my 942 on the sidewalk about a week after I got it. Minor dings on both ends of my handle too. Give it a few weeks and you won't even notice it.

That's why I hate aluminum handled knives as users. When they fall it's ding city and then your pissed. Trust me almost all my knives are aluminum handled, MT's and MOD's. But they NEVER leave the carpeted part of the house. My users are an AFCK and a 905 stryker. Both of these have wonderous G10. I've had my AFCK for 6 years and dropped it a zillion times without one ding on the handle. Aluminum feels better and is a higer grade material, but it is SOOO fragile. Can't wait to try the new Griptilian as a user. Although FRN is not as good as G10, it's more durable than aluminum.

My wife picked me up a BM 705, the May 2000 knife of the month version. Looks like carbon fiber(sort of), but is not and does not feel similar at all. They say that is "anodized" aluminum, WRONG! It is a COATING on the surface of plain aluminum. I dropped here in the house(terrazzo floors, no carpet) and the coating chipped off entirely on the corners that hit the floor!! That is not counting the dings in the scales underneath that happened at the same time. Heck of a lot of money for her to spend on something that will wear off(I can see the wear spots from carrying it in my pocket) or chip or peel off with your fingernail!! Oh well, it was the thought that counted.

Take care.

Tom,
Is it possible the same method was used when you were extremely young? Dropped on your head a few times to show toughness?

Another case of the pot calling the kettle black...?

RLR - Just polish it with a green 3M scrubbie, probably wasn't hurt at all.

No, it's chipped, dinged, deformed...
I had to file a burr off the edge of the biggest chip...

I'm still sad, but getting over it slowly...

You see, the problem is that the handle coating is pretty tough, so it isn't scratching and getting a patina. There are just these little chips yelling out "hey loser boy, guess you shouldn't be so stupid..."

Damn those little voices, damn them all...
