Nice Surprise today when I looked out the window and the mailman was carrying a "HI size" box up my driveway. I had no idea my YCS would be in it. I see Uncle likes to surprise us

It sure is a dandy. Beautiful blade. Absolutely perfect fit and finish. The tools are great!! I really like the idea of 2 knives that are bigger and could be used for big tasks. Like cutting my steak when camping

Sanu just keeps getting better and better. It's real sharp too. The inlays are well done. The silver buttcap and bolster are also very well done. Scabbard is good also with the addition of "Nepal" on it.

The blade is so pretty, I'll have to display it out of the scabbard with her "tools".

I thank Sanu and and Yvsa for this fine addition to my collection.

Yvsa- Your design is fantastic. I really like it. It is my only forward curving Khuk.

...and thank you Bill for the nice surprise!

Did I say sharp? I was wiping it down to get the last bit of grease off, and she sliced through my rag and cut my thumb. Nothing serious, just a little slice.

Yvsa, does that make me a "half blood brother"?

I have now bonded with blade.

Sorry Roger us NDNs don't do anything half
way.

To make "blood relatives" an intermingleing of blood is still required and is usually done by cuts on the wrist. And not much of that is done in this day and age, however there are ceremonies for the "making of relatives" that are done without blood being spilled.
The "making of relatives" in any form is a very serious undertaking as one may find out down the road a ways that the person isn't who they said they were and you cannot undo the ceremony, you are stuck with them as relatives and that can be very embarrasing sometimes. I know from experience.

However you have definitely "bonded" with your blade. Now wait until the other 3 get you.

And by the way just to clarify....
The YCS is a fully curved khukuri and not a "forward" curved model.
At least mine is and the kamis usually keep things pretty much to the models sent them.
If you will notice the GRS, an to a point the 18th Century are both "forward" curving.
What distinguishes the difference is that the YCS when layed on its spine should make a full gentle arc from the butt to the point.
The GRS and 18th Century when layed on their spines are flat or almost flat until they get to the bend which instead of the angle like on the standard models "curves" down to the point.
There is a noticeable difference to me in the balance between all three styles and I like the fully curved one the best, but that could be because I am somewhat prejudiced.

Another point, whoops, a pun!!!

I had to solve a couple of problems with the carrying of the small tools. The edge of one karda when placed in the scabbard traditionaly
hit the back of the other one causeing a blunting of its edge.
I solved that problem by putting the short karda in backwards, or edge out, on the convex side of the scabbard

The sleeve for the awl came loose and I used supper glue on two sides and placed its top edge right at the top of the scabbard. Then I trimmed the inside at an angle about 1/4"-5/16" deep to hold the awl more securely.
Since mine is being used, and when carried on a belt I check frequently to make sure the awl is stll
there as I am not real sure of it yet and I would really hate to lose the awl since I feel it's an important part of the rig and what it was designed for.
A better fix would be to remove the very thick leather used for all the sleeves and replace it with some thin tough goat skin which I will probably do before summer gets here and it get used more often.
The thin leather will let the awl set a whole lot deeper in the scabbard an I beleive it will be as secure as the kardas.
There is No Way they're going to come out!!!

Oh yea. And I take it that you "like" this khukuri?

I was only joking about the blood brother thing.

Fully curved. Thanks for straightening me out
smile.gif

I have one karda in the back slot and the other in front next to the awl. They don't seem to touch.

I noticed that Sanu switched to an eight pointed star on the keeper.

Yup, I like it.

:
I knew that, just thought I would throw in some ndn stuff.

The sarkis must have realized the potential problem or at least we can hope. Mine is setup where the awl is in the back of the kardas.
And actually by reversing the one karda it made it easier to get out without removing the khukuri.

To me like I said,"there is a difference in the balances." and when you get your GRS then you can compare.
I hope when Harry gets his that he will jump in and tell us if he sees the difference I feel.

Thought you did.
biggrin.gif

What do you think about a YCS Kothimoda now?

GRS will have to wait until after the first of the year. But I think I must have one.

Thinking about a Salyan or a Gelbu Special too.

A YCS Kothimoda would be nice. How would the scabbard look? Same pattern? or something different?

Hmmm....a YCS Kothimoda...and have a thunderbird design on the scabbard along with Cherokee beadwork and .....

Yvsa, where are my medications!!!!

:
Harry I hadn't thought about the beadwork as I don't do it, just don't have the patience and my big thick fingers get in the way.

However!!
biggrin.gif

I do know some people that does beautiful beadwork and if that's something you might want done in the future I would bet that you could trade a khukuri for it.

Yvsa.(Who is now thinking about a phone call to Roy.
smile.gif
)

Thanks Bro. Sometimes the blood is already there and one doesn't have to do the ceremony annit?
