well the search for the 'next one' has come down to two:

-Queen Canoe D2, stag

or

-Case Seahorse Whittler, silver script autum bone

configuration preference aside, can anyone comment on comparative quality?

i'm leaning toward the Case right now, but this will be an EDC user and i've heard about some Case QC gripes.

thanks for your time,

Metis

I own a Case such as the one your are considering buying. The quality on mine was impressive. (To the point where I feel it was the best regular Case issue I have handled in well over a decade).

I have a D2 Queen doctor's pattern that I have been toting for a few weeks. Finish on it is on par with the Case (acutally the Case is a little better since both Queens have some gaps between the liners and the backsprings). The D2 steel is pretty nice as far as edge holding and is a little tougher to sharpen than the Case.

I do not think either is a bad choice. If you like longer edge retention go with the Queen it is a better steel. The Case offers 3 usefull blade shapes and since I have a thing for Wharncliff's I give the Case a slight edge in fit and finish (on this model) and utility.

The last couple of Case knives I have bought, a mini hunter and a sowbelly (gave to friend as gift) were very well done. Case has had a few QC problems, but if my last two were any indication, then they have made great improvement.

There stainless steel is not known for great edge holding, but it does ok for me for what I use it for.

I never had a Queen, but they do look nice.

Just my own opinion here...I have owned and used many of each brand...over a period of time that would encompass probably several changes in QC, however slight or great they may have been.

When I've bought a Queen product I've bought quality in a production slip joint...when I've bought Case I've purchased some pretty handles sandwiched around cheap steel....again, just my own personal experience.

thanks all,

i went with the Case for now, because of the tri-blade versatility.

and if i don't like it i'm sure i can trade it to someone, for something :).

take care,

Metis
