Not generally a fan of the Buck "recreational" models but the Apex is starting to grow on me the more I look through the catalog. I've got a soft spot for orange knives and carbon fiber so two of the three Apex models are right up my alley and my wife thought the purple was nice looking so may grab one of each.

Anyone else considering an Apex?

Yes it is on my want list. I can not carry visible knives on my job so I like small knives that will fit in my watch pocket. The Apex should meet the task. Right now I carry a Buck ToothPick, but I want to change knives once in awhile.

I can carry anything I want at work but I feel your pain. Could see the Apex clipped to my wife's purse strap or hanging off the dash in my pickup truck. Just kind of out of sight, out of mind until you need a little blade or bottle opener then, whoop, there it is!

Ran across the CF Apex at my local Outdoor Store and bought the last one they had. This thing is sweet. Weighs next to nothing, locks open without an iota of play, shaving sharp and it looks great. I didn't want to use the carabiner clip on a belt loop so used the belt clip on my shirt between the buttons like a tie clasp without the tie.

I forgot it was there the entire rest of this afternoon. I like this a lot and will be picking up the other two flavors as the opportunity arises. The only issue I have is that the pocket clip isn't going to fit over the pocket hem of most blue jeans as the hem would be too thick. More for slacks or on shirt like I did but it's so small and handy you can keep it any where.

Great pics, Badhammer! I think you just sold me on them.

EDIT - OK, I know you sold me on one. I looked at them on the Buck site, looked at the Carbon Fiber at Blade HQ and hit the button. It might push the 301 out of my pocket for a spell. ;)

Got my Apex today. So far I like it. The first thing I did was remove the pocket clip, now it slides right in my watch pocket. I like that it has a more substantial blade than my Toothpick has, I also like the frame lock. The carabiner/ bottle opener I could do with out but may come in handy some time. Sharp and tight out of the box.

Yes I scratched the blade using it today.

I've been tossing around the idea of getting one for long distance backpacking.
I like the looks of it….especially the CF one.

I just got my Apex 818 today and I couldn't be more pleased. China made or not, these knives are beautifully finished and designed. The thumb jimping is very secure and the blade centering is near perfect. The carabiner spring is strong, as is the pocket clip. In addition, the detent for holding the blade closed is smooth and secure. The blade opens with a secure snap and there is no play in any direction. The Carbon Fiber feature is a nice touch too.

All in all, the Apex is a great little pocket knife that has bumped my 301.

Well Buck hit two more home runs! Picked up the orange and purple versions this week, $55 to my door for the pair. I'm really pleased with these as I was with the CF model. Fit and finish is top shelf! Blades are very sharp, centered and have very even grinds. Lockup is around 40% and rock solid. They both open pretty smoothly though a little lube and or a cleaning of the pivot wouldn't hurt. Overall they are about as perfect as any Buck I've ever got. My intention was to gift one each to my wife and daughter when we all get together on Fathers Day but now I'm thinking I may have to order two more either for them or myself as these are pretty sweet. Hope you enjoy the photos.

P.S. If you want to discuss where these are made rather than the design/features of the knives themselves please start your own thread.

I thought about getting an orange one for my son, that is his favorite color. I was using mine earlier today tocut a thorny sapling.
