I have been eagerly awaiting this birth for the past two weeks. She kept getting fatter and fatter, then started turning this way and that. Tonight it finally comming.

My Night Blooming Cereus is blooming.....What?...what did you think I was talking about?

These bloom only at night and only for one night. It starts opening up about 5-6PM, and by midnight-1AM, it will be a huge and almost unbelievable flower. I have been photographing it daily, and will do it all nigh long as it blooms. By dawn it will turn limp and fall on the deck. I'll clean up the photos in the next day or so and post tem on this thread.

Any of you chaps have these growing?

That sound really neat. I'm looking forward to pictures. Sure sounds like a lot if work and anticipation for one bloom on one night.

Here are some shots between 11PM and Midnight. The last one is at 6PM. I'll put up the whole sequence later.

A friend of mine threw a party a few years ago when hers bloomed, very cool!

We have had one of those for over ten years. I have only seen it blossom one time. It had twins. I have pics somewhere, I'll try to dig up. It is truly an incredible thing to sit and watch in person.

I'll have to look for it, but somewhere I have a photo of a fellow in Florida who has a bunch of cereus vines running up a fat palm trees in his courtyard. It has about twenty blooms at one time.

In the shots I will be posting, I put my foot on the deck. The deck boards are 6" wide, too. The flower is about 10-12" wide, with the center opening about 5-6".

good work catching her... good things happen to those who wait eh? congratulations on the newest member to the family... sorry for your loss. ;)
