I haven't been this eager in a long time but after what seemed like forever (three days :)) I finally got my Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It has been reviewed to death so I just want to go over my first impressions on fit & finish.

First thing was to move the clip for a southpaw. No thread lock on the screws which isn't a problem for me since I had to move it for lefty carry and want to try tip up and tip down for a while until I lock it down. Fit of the grips to scales is perfect. No rough, sharp or frayed edges anywhere.

Blade is perfectly centered.

Lockup is early and solid. No blade play up/down or side to side. Opens with a bank vault solid click. I tried to start the blade open with a wrist flick and couldn't do it. I won't be adjusting it since this is the way I prefer it. Even so, the blade opens very smoothly.
I measured the sharpened angle on my stone with a protractor and it is 20 degrees (40 inclusive), perfect for the Sharpmaker. It arrived hair popping sharp.
There was a nice letter from Spyderco in the box giving a brief history of Gayle Bradley and some information on the CPM-M4 steel. The only thing I don't like about the knife is the pocket clip and how it allows the knife to ride in my pocket. There is a sizeable section of metal on the clip from the screws to the bend that allows it to sit higher up in the pocket. I am sure the clip works well and does its intended purpose, but I prefer a clip that allows a lower ride in the pocket. If I need more to grab, I will add a noose lanyard to the lanyard hole. Just my preference.

This is the first Spyderco I have purchased in many years. I wasn't going to purchase this knife for many reasons- all personal preferences, not prejudice against Spyderco. I read many reviews and when I decided I wanted another M4 blade, I kept coming back to this one. Every review and comment was right on the money and I am glad I took the plunge. Now, to do something about that pocket clip- any suggestions???

Congrats on the new blade! I carried one for a while and really liked it, but ultimately traded it off. Your comments on the F&F are dead-on for all of the Taichung Taiwan-made spydies...they're almost flawless. The M4 steel is great, too. I know the knife looks almost elegant, but trust me, you can put it through its paces and it will ask for more! Have fun with it, man.

What a great knife ! I've had mine 6 months now. I still like it a little more each day . One of Spyderco's very best !

Honestly, I really, really loved the Gayle Bradley. I never used it and only kept if for a few weeks but I did fondle, and admire it. It is definitely a capable, and beautiful tool. I sold mine to buy a Sebenza, we will see if I will miss it or not but if I do, I can always get another one. I have my eyes on the new gayle bradley air. That looks like a great little pocket knife.

I feel the Gayle Bradley is the best bang for your buck of almost any knife I can think of! M4 steel and carbon fiber handles, for under $130 (or less!) I feel like there's nothing this knife can't handle. I've been carrying mine for a few weeks now and cutting everything I can think of with it. It's developing a nice natural patina and I think I stropped it once. Congrats!!

Great knife, one of my favorite EDCs. As for the clip, I'm working on making a Ti lowrider clip for it.

I picked one of these up a couple weeks ago and am thoroughly impressed w/ the quality. It's become one of my favorites. I really like how solid it feels and the all-around size. It's a perfect edc for me.

Do you think the lockbar is hard to disengage at all? I really want to get a GB but, I'm worried because others have said its hard to get your thumb in there to unlock it.. Are they just sissies or what?

I was about to ask this very question. I just got a Bradley after hearing all the great reviews and really liking the Sage tribute to him. I really like the F+F and it feels tough and great in hand, but I find the lock really hard to disengage. Maybe it will get easier with use, but I wonder is it just thicker/stiffer than most or maybe it's because the cutout in the handle doesn't let my thumb get the right angle?

Curious if others notice this, don't recall hearing anything about it when people talked about it before.
