I'm new to all this, but the haft to head fit is good with the exception of that one spot in the picture. Is it normal at the top of the head for the wood to be "bit into" like that?

Oh, now you've done it! I've been tempted by their camp hawks, and now you show me how nice they look (getting laid off is a pain).

As for the notching: I've got a number of hawks that do the same. For those seeing heavy use, I make a liner/collar of thin sheet steel between the head and the handle. Then, when I tap the head into place, the sheet metal deforms into the wood (which locks the head), but the wood itself is not chipped.

Again, nice piece, indeed.

Thanks for clearing that up... I was a bit worried. Now I just need to get out and put it to some real use. :D

The blade on this one actually came to 4" - his website says approx. 3.5" on their ranger hawks. She's a beauty, and compliments my Fallkniven NL2 really well...

Looks great, especially with the classic stacked leather handle look of your Fallkniven.
