My SOG prize was waiting for me when I got home last night. What a beaut! You guys do great work and the contest was fun.

Ron, did you ever nail down the steel used for the blade. Is it AUS-8? It sounds from your letter that it is a carbon steel. If it's carbon steel, should I keep the blade oiled or just free from humidity and water?

Anyhow, thanks for the contest and the prize!

Mike

Hi Michael,

You are very welcome for the knife! Yes, it is a "beaut!"

This knife is carbon steel (most likely SK-5). Humidity and water free is most ideal (and free of fingerprints, etc.), but a blade protectant would also be advised. Our strongest recommendation would be Marine Tuf-Cloth, by Sentry Solutions (www.sentrysolutions.com). These retail for about $10/each.

I had Steve (one of my Consumer Services Associates) prep your knife. I don't think he applied "Tuf-Cloth," but he may have oiled it. Tuf-Cloth has an odd (but not overpowering) smell. Take a whiff, if you smell nothing, it probably needs something.

If I'm able to nail down the exact steel type, I'll let you know.

Again, outstanding job on your parody of Poe.

I noticed the wierd smell of Tuf Cloth. The funniest comment from a friend was to ask why I put Marsypan on my blades
