Last night I was walking by the door to my youngest son's room, when I noticed a mint early '70s black micarta handled Akonua on the floor. I stepped back, walked in and found a bunch of cut up cardboard and packing materials strewn about. My initial response was "Don't you have a user?". He looked up and said "It's just a knife Dad!". My last thoughts before sleep were that my son was right, "It's just a knife Dad", a tool that has made mans life easier for hundreds of years. I guess now it's maybe jealousy I feel, for not having felt the first cut that mint Akonua made, while gliding effortlessly through that cardboard:p

well itis great you could share with your son!
yes, it is a lesson to you to put your toys up!
yep, as he is a tool user he may need his own!;)

...That's why I could never be a "collector" I guess. There is no knife in my small grouping that hasn't been used. I do use some much more often than others but they do such a nice job of doing what they were made to do that I find it impossible to place them in "isolation"...

"User" ,,, "User"

Whats this USER thang yall keep talking about...

I agree... "User"

Kitchen knife = user
Standard 110 = user

MINT 1970's Akonua= usxx safequeen:D

Oh well cardboard shouldnt be too bad. Wheres that epoxied up 110 when you need it Scott? LOL

Funny. My boys got into my collection too. One picked a new Buck 503 and the other a new Spyderco Native. They said they went "hiking", which meant they went into the woods to cut trees and dirt! Both blades were dull and had a few chips. My first thought was, "what were you two thinking"...but then I remembered when I did the exact thing to my dad's prized 110 in the '70s. Walked away shaking my head with a little smile, boys will be boys.

Scott...that blows.
A knife laying on the floor?
I'm thinking you need to send me that for safe keeping until your son learns there are only two places for a FB...in your hand or in it's sheath.

It's cool, he was beside the knife. He just has a different idea on collectibles, he like to use'm. He's apt to use any mint knife I give him, his knife his choice. He's also aware that there's no reason to complain about resale prices on his used knives.

I guess thats what they were originally used for! :D
Besides their his! I thought he used yours!
I wish I had the "capabilities" to use some of my Buck Knives that I collect!
I just cant bring myself to do it...
Buckcotes, custom 110's, "fancy" steel fixed blades, just cant do it...
