It's kind of funny when I show my collection of Emersons to friends.....

...because they all put out the same excuse (all but maybe 4 are also knife collectors). An example of one of our conversations (let's call this guy "Phil")

Phil - Why don't you just invest into one knife that you're going to keep?
Me - Uh, because I plan on keeping and carrying and using all of them. Why get rid of what works?
Phil - Well, I hardly see how good your new Tiger is compared to my (insert name of other big manufacturer, hint, he uses a horse as a logo)
Me - Well, I actually use my knives <pulls out well-used Horseman and CQC-10>.

At this point he then starts to browse my small army, mainly on the Horseman, CQC-7 K-bit, and Combat K-bit.

Phil - Well they definitely are comfortable. I just can justify using my ____________.

Damnit, phil. Ya bought it, now frikkin' use it. If anyone's wondering the condition of his unnamed knife, it's been opened maybe once or twice. I wish I was joking.

On another note, how many others out there put their own second bevel on their Emersons? I've done it to my Horseman and 10 and it actually works wonders.

I said it before... Ernest has a perfect knife formula.
And, I leave my Emersons as they are. Except for a custom rear-spacer for my HD7.

I like to use them as they are also. I have many knives from other manufacturers, including some with a horse logo but carry an Emerson more than most. I put a second bevel on a 7A but was pretty inexperienced at the time so I ended taking a lot of metal off. It worked well enough and made sharpening on a sharpmaker super easy (which was my intention as this was a travel knife). I personally wouldn't do it again but if you prefer a V edge it's not too hard to do.

I don't have the chance to use them as much as I would like due to the fact that I live in the city. But when I get the chance I bust out the Emerson. I only have had one that was reprofiled and I cant remember If I did it or got it in a trade like that. It was a horseman and dang that thing was sharp, sliced my thumb closing it one time. On a side note, as soon as I finish my degree, Im out of Orange County and going to try to move somewhere a little more friendly.

Phil's a poser and uses his knives as man-jewelry. 😆

He definitely pines more over how clean his afformentioned knife is. Kinda sad if you ask me. The most well used wrench in my Dad's garage is like 30yrs old and has like, none of the original finish on it.

Could be worse. At least you don't have to explain why you own 6 of the same Emerson model... and why they're made by Benchmade and not Emerson...

Don't see how one can justify buying a knife to EdC but can't justify to use it.

Having said, I have many friends like that too. Lol
