An early Greek text, would have looked something like the above if they had used english, instead of their contemporary written language.
They didn't find a need to use spacing, capital letters or punctuation. For the knowledgeable man of the time it probably posed no challenge but for people living in this common era, it seems to, like, you know, to run together without much nuance or grammatic impact.

As copied, in this more easily digested format the same sentence would read:

When Mycenaean civilization collapsed in the twelfth century bc, Greece entered a "dark age". But out of this enigmatic period emerged, four centuries later, a new civilization that was to outshine Mycenae, a civilization whose weapons were of iron rather than bronze. By the time the first Greek city states emerged, towards the end of the ninth century bc, bronze weapons had all but disappeared.

I have the same trouble "absorbing" the message, that is contained in threads written in the modern equivalent of the ancient Greek.
I refer to it as myspace posting, because it is found so predominantly on sites like that.
This site is not a "myspace site" It is much more technical in format.
There are people, who post here, whose knowledge, amazes me.
They share that knowledge with in depth post; I know! taking considerable time, to layout their message so it can be understood. I applaud that effort!:D:thumbdn:
For those of us who do not possess great technical knowledge but do want to share with other forumites their experiences, I would think making the effort to use the common language of the site, our guide.
I know if I post on one of those diary like sites they would not get upset if I were to drop a semicolon, now and then.
