I like to vary my EDC. But I don't anymore. I had a different knife on me yesterday which is a major brand (probably Spydie's MAIN competitor) and which I had honed on a SPYDERCO SHARPMAKER to a hair popping edge and ....YET....
We go to the grocery store and I try to sever a partially dried tomato vine as we only needed two and the .....BRAND X..... was too THICK in cross section to do it .....EASILY. Oh it popped thru and we got our tomatoes but....
The SE Delica is back in the pocket today.

Oh woe!!!!

:D

I'll tell you something worse... My first and only "real" knife is a Delica! (See username.) Now I'm having trouble buying anything else! I did just pick up my first decent kitchen knives, though (just basic Chicago Cutlery.) That should keep me occupied for a while. :-)

Now I am engaged in the happy but expensive pursuit of "the perfect knife." That said, if you believe that you have found it, why worry about not being happy with anything else?

I'm having a great time with the pursuit part:D My first Spydie was a Delica 3 and once it got to my pocket, it's always stayed there. Not soooo long ago, a Delica 4 replaced it, but the D3 is also there when I wear cargos. Funny thing about those Delica 4's - I somehow ended up with four of 'em:D

I really like my D3 after finally getting one a couple weeks ago. I think every police officer should have one. Certainly every department can afford to outfit their officers with them.

Although I love to have my variety, if I found one knife that fit my needs perfectly I would dance a jig and never carry anything else. So kudos for finding your so quickly.

I'm with Hesparus, I like a good mix of knives; but with the number of Delica variations that will be on the market (five by my count, including the drone and not counting edge configs.) you can have quite a few knives and still carry a Delica every day!:D

why worry

Cuz I spent 3 times MORE on the other knife. Oh well, it is probably a better TACTICAL knife for NINJA tomato stems.

I carry both the Delica SE for cutting most stuff and a Fallkniven U-2 for plain edge like whittling (which I never do, but need a knife for it in case I ever need to)

It's all nuts anyhow.

But my old scratched up VG-10 serrated Delica just cuts like crazy.

I may carry the more expensive OTHER one dangling from my neck like jewelry just to show that I have it.

:D

My Pacific Salt and Salt 1 (essentially rust-proof Endura and Delica with H-1 steel) are surprising me with the amount of pocket time they're getting, the Delica style blade profile is a surprisingly good blade geometry.....

still, my Cricket does the lions share of my actual *cutting* duties

Yeah my Salt 1 has seen pocket time alot lately. Especially because I live near water. The salt's blades have one of the most useful grinds I've ever used. It I'm near water, It's a Salt, otherwise Endura...both AWESOME KNIVES!!

I have a bunch of Spydercos but I have to admit that my black blade D3 PE gets more than its share of pocket time. I am impressed with the black coating, it seems to stand up much better than some makers coating. Also, the VG-10 seems like it never gets dull! I have cut sand paper with it and it is still so sharp that I can't see spending time sharpening it. I am impressed for sure. It is one of those classics that is sometimes overlooked in favor of more flashy models but it gets the job done. I can only imagine what a full flat ground Delica 3 would cut like. I bet it would be a better overall knife than the Calypso Jr.

Because I still truely hate a saber grind, flat or hollow.

I believe the blade of the calypso jr is a superior cutter, and if a choice, I would take the solid zdp-189 over the laminate, but I just can't get the delica's steel reinforced handle & solid zdp189 out of my hand.

I wish the delica was a full flat grind, right up to the spine.

I like both handle designs, but prefer the reinforced handle feel of the delica.

I also can't wait for the new caly3 with carbon fiber handles will have a zdp-189 blade.

Thanx for the kind words about the design, we do work on it.

Hey Uncle, I'll bet there's a custom maker that cound regrind it for you to a full flat.

Wayne Goddard reground my Cold Steel Bowie a number of years ago, quite a difference in the performance.

BTW, for the past few days, I have been carrying a new foliage green Delica. The Delica is a really easy knife to carry and use.

I have carried a Delica every day for years and years. I just got one of the ZDP-189 D4s, which is really a nice change from my current D3 (three of them, actually). I really like the steel reinforcements in the scales - it's a whole different feeling.
