So I managed to pic this up today. Wont say I wasnt (slightly) influenced by Carl and his stories :D

I will try his theory out, and see how well it goes. I know already that I am afraid of losing it, I honestly cant tell its in my pocket and i find myself checking to make sure its still there

The 309 is a great little knife - just long enough and just wide enough to handle well - IMO anyway. An advantage of smaller, lighter knives is that they are actually less likely to sneak out of your pocket than a bit larger, heavier knives (say if you're wearing khakis).

Congrats!

Like you, I bought one a few weeks ago after reading one of jackknife's stories about a 309.
(I'd carried 303's and 3013s for years. I'd never tried a 309.)

Cool little knife! That "clip" blade works almost like a Wharncliffe. And of course Buck does the best heat treat on 420HC of anyone in the business.

The fit and finish on mine is excellent. No gaps, nice snap to the blades. It came very sharp, with edge angle at ~15° per sided, and it didn't take much work on my part to fix the edges up the way I like.

I've carried it a bit and it does pretty much everything I need a blade to do on a daily basis.

thanks ya'll

only had it a couple hours, so i havent had much chance to use it for anything.
got to pick the knife out of a couple choices, so fit and finish are pretty perfect, good snap, good springs (no nailbreakers or lazy/weak springs) all in all I am happy with it

spent just a little top on the strop making sure it will shave hair, cause thats how i like it :P

prolly should wash it out thoroughly with some dawn just to be sure, but i'm not sure it needs it (pretty jazzed about that too :P)

I'll join with you RSmith. I like that flat edge on your Companion's clip. I have a few peanuts, and do appreciate then, but sometimes I seek a knife a little bit longer for my big hands.

Case 32087 CV

It's 3 3/8" closed and a single spring. It's still a compact handy knife.

I am thinking Rs was giving me some of my own humor back. I was thinking everyone would get the humor in me commenting
as such, since I did the near exact same thing with 309 in the old peanut thread last week. And my handle would lead to such also.... as Zero said the 309 is my khakis knife........or as I usually say my 'Sunday go to meetin' knife..........glad to see Knar branching out to small Bucks.......the little 305 would fall into the sub-peanut realm..........................................300Bucks

Look at this oddball, home workbench jigging job ? Some later Buck jig bones were several years down the road. But, the pivot pin on one end is marked like it has been messed with...who knows.

It's close enough, we'll give you a probationary membership in the cult. Just shove a loosely balled up bandana down on top of it and you'll be fine.:D Those 309's are great little knives.

Carl.

probationary or not :)

i feelz special now hehe

Rsmith, nice knife!

Got my first 309 in '85, and still love it!

thanks! the 309 caught my eye earlier this year, but i got distracted a little and picked up a Wenger SI and a 301
just took me a little while to get back to it

I am looking forward to carrying this little guy for awhile (with the Wenger SI in the other pocket hehe)

the 302 is the solitaire isnt it?
never seen it in person. looks pretty though. But i think i prefer having the 2nd blade myself. Your mileage, of course, may vary

kinda, different blades for different jobs i suppose
but i like knowing i have a 2nd blade if the first one gets dull...

old fashioned I guess.
Others may disagree though..and i am sure folks will be around to comment shortly...

Yeah, I pretty much agree with that. Having two blades, or even three in a small stockman is where it's at for me. Call it a back up blade, or a second blade for a different use, whatever. If it only has one blade I may as well make it a small sheath knife and do away with the inherent problems of a folding knife.

Carl.
