.... but I thought you'd get a kick out of these photos:

This is a titanium mace I just brought up from the shop.

The only part that isn't titanium is the stainless bolt that secures the head to the shaft. I machined everything else from solid 6AL4V titanium bar stock.

The spikes have integral threaded studs to secure them to the head.

The finial was also machined from a solid bar of Grade 5 titanium and has an integral threaded stud.

I'll put Loctite® on everything during final assembly. :)

This is about 17 3/8" overall with a 2 1/2" diameter head and 7/8" diameter shaft. It weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces.

Way cool Tom. I wish I could have been in the shop when you machined that. You've been tinkering on other non-knife stuff too. It's good to keep all those skills up. Keep them pic's coming.

Thanks, everyone! :)

That thing is freakin' cool!
How much did that much titanium cost you? What is the asking price?

The titanium ran about $100.00. I also broke or wore out about the same amount in carbide inserts, drills, and taps. Add about a week of shop time and you'll get a good idea of what I need to ask for this. ;)

Ouch! That should hurt! Don't drop it on your feet! :D
Great work, Tom!

I'd like to see someone try to carjack you with that in your car.

That's awesome! And here I was so proud of my mace made out of old gears and lamp parts! :D That is some serious machining, and the modern design and material are kind of ironic in a pleasing way. You may be starting something, like Licata's "steel" guitars. :D

Tom ,

Show everybody the war hammer. Now that thing is awesome.

OK......

This has a solid 1 1/2" diameter 440C head with a 7/8" titanium handle.

The head is bolted to the handle with a 5/16" stainless steel screw. There's also a 440C index pin on the inside to keep the head from rotating. In this shot, you can see all the points jutting out from the face.

Here's a shot of the face.

The opposite end has an armor piercing point.

The grip has bands of fine diamond knurling and a lanyard hole.

The head has just been heat treated. I still need to polish it up a bit and assemble everyhing. :)

Very cool!!! Hmmm... maybe some black powder in the head, a few percussion caps in the spikes and you'll have yourself a WWII grenade!

Hey, how did you do the knurling on the handle for the war hammer?

Makes me hurt just thinking of the damage that would do to someones forehead. I smashed a a-hole across his big ugly noggin with a 4-way lug wrench once (he asked for it) and was quite amazed at how much blood splattered all over the place on impact. I could see that removing a large hunk of flesh and bone.
