In today's news you will see various reports of an Japanese oil tanker accident near the Nicobar Islands. The Tanker was responding to assist a ship in distress when the two collided spilling some 4000 tons of oil. What bother's me is:

1) That the name of the cargo ship is never mentioned (although a few stories call it a singapore flaged ship)?
2) Why focus on a 4,000 ton spill from the tanker when the other ship (the one on fire) likely has as much fuel in its bunkers?
3) Where are the stories of a heroic crew battling a fire on board a cargo ship?
4) Since when does an oil tanker approach a burning ship? (What were they trying to do mate it- you use lifeboats for rescue)
5) None of these reports mention weather conditions; or time of day.

Could it be that our peaceful Islamic neighbors, have taken it upon themselves to rid our oceans of those unsightly super tankers, by faking distress calls and raming them? (the distress call bit - may turn out to be optional)

Here are a couple of links to the story:

Ever hear of the scenerio where the terrorists ignite a ship carrying natural gas in Boston's harbor?

Welcome to the paranoid guild.
When Iran gets nukes, is that a terrible reality or paranioa?

I'm starting to get downright scared about world events.

I have a feeling that more goes on behind the scenes than most people want to know. It wouldn't be that surprising if your hunch turned out to be right on the money. It could also be as simple as the Two-Leggeds being a rather dumb animal.

Good point, if an oil tanker went to help a burning ship and came close enough to ram it, then the master of the tanker should at the least lose his license. That's like running into a burning building with a horn of black powder around your neck. Just plain dumb.

I like how you think, n2s. Stay vigilant. Whether incompetance, or trechery, this is a plausable idea. AND we ARE at war!

Might just be a good old fashioned shipping magnets insaurance job, they often dont add up either.

Could be; but, they would probably empty the vessel before scraping it. The cost of cleaning up a spill on this scale would likely far exceed the insured value of ship and cargo. It would also be easier and more effective to detonate the fumes in an empty tank then to stage a multi-ship collision.

Then again, it could have been one of Yvsa's buddies
