Hello 'hawk lovers,
I was sitting around the other day looking at my ATC Next Gen Spike 'hawk when suddenly it hit me; I have not yet tested this hawk to it's distance limits. So out I went. The first long throw was at around 85'. I let it fly, full power, it sped through the air like a rocket and slammed into the target with the bottom flat end of the shaft. I guess that was not the proper rotation. The head moved down the shaft about 1 inch. I was VERY surprised and impressed that the head did not come flying off of the shaft. Andy and co. got this attachment RIGHT! The hawk was easily fixed by holding the head and pounding the top of the shaft with a hammer. It pounded it right back to new. So I recalculated my distance and let it fly, THUNK! Perfect hit, and the first time I got a stick on this fussy new target I made. So, I decided to go further, 95'...THUNK! Perfect. A little further this time, I let it fly from 100', as hard as I could throw and once again I heard the dissapointing noise of the bottom of the handle smashing perfectly into the target as if shot straight from a bow! The head came down again, but only the same amount of movement as the last time. The hammer fixed it again. So I tried again, 105'! To be honest with you all, I almost threw my shoulder out with this one and don't think I will do it anymore. (who am I kidding, I will probably try for 110' as soon as my shoulder heals) 105' is a perfect rotation, hits blade first every time! I really have to give a lot of credit to the ATC crew. You have no idea how abusive this kind of throwing is. I live in upstate NY where the soil might as well just be solid stone. Any time the hawk blade misses or comes short it is crashing into rocks beneath the dirt. And I mean BIG rocks! This hawk has not chipped or so much as rolled the edge. When I am done throwing I get it shaving again with 2 minutes on the DMT fine diamond stick. And this head attachment is nothing short of amazing. Andy told me to send the 'hawk to them when ever I want and they will fix it. I told Andy there is no need, at normal distances it still will not budge! The hammer method really made it good as new! Andy, thanks for a killer 'hawk!!
