Well,
Where do I start?

Not too long ago I asked STR to make me one of his ouparators. I got it and it was absolutely flawless. My only issue was that it was too stout for my weak little thumb.

I told STR and he immediately told me to send it back and he would loosen it up for my wussy little thumb (that's not what he said, but you get the idea). Rather than do that, I thought.....Hey, I can adjust the lock contact area and all will be well.

Fast forward: Imagine me standing over my work area, dremel in hand, knife torn apart with a sinking feeling of complete failure. I managed to adjust the lock contact alright. I also managed to OVER fix the lock area. I took off too much metal from the area and now had a great knife that had significant play.

I contacted STR and hesitantly told him of my goof up. He patiently told me to send it back and he would look at it. At that point, I pretty much knew I would either be buying a new lock or a new blade. Either way, I was pretty pissed with myself.

Well, STR emailed me today and told me he was able to fix it and to top that off HE DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR IT. Needless to say, I am very grateful and wanted to say publicly that I greatly appreciate it. I have also learned a VERY important lesson: just because you have a dremmel doesn't mean a. you know how to use it and b. you should use it. Lesson learned. Period.

Thanks Steve. Thank you, thank you.

You should have it back soon. Maybe tomorrow being that you are so close to me geographically.

It always makes me nervous when someone contacts me with information that they have messed with the most critical part of a locking folder, that of course being the lock but even more so when its one of my customs. I try real hard to make the contacts such that they would break in and be fine but sometimes what happens is that the break in can in fact make the lock move in a bit further than it was when here and they do stick some until the lock is mated up better to fit the blade. Sometimes its hard to predict how they'll behave.

Hopefully you can live with it now. If not though I want to hear about it.

Alejandrino: I did NOT expect different from Steve, but I also know I am TOTALLY responsible for this situation.

Steve: Have no worry, I WILL let you know if there is anything. I have seriously learned a valuable lesson I will never forget.

Thanks again!
Brett

Sorry, Brett! I did not mean any offense from my statement, just something to say about Steve ! I am sure your knife will be fine!

Oh gosh no! I didn't take offense at all. Sorry if I came across like that. You are right though, Steve is a great guy.

Take care man,
Brett

Hey All,
Got my ouparator back today. Not sure how Steve did it, but he fixed it up all snappy like. It's such a great knife. NOw that I sold off my paramilitary, it's my pocket companion.
Thanks again STR. You are truly a nice guy.

Take care,
Brett
