Last year, I met the love of my life. I knew right away that she was the woman I would marry. She is my best friend, my lover, my life partner and dare I say my soulmate. She's so incredibly smart and beautiful, has great values and morals, she's adventurous, artistic, etc. and she makes me a better man.
Near the holidays, months after we started dating, I asked her if she would marry me on a whim and she said "of course." We considered ourselves engaged, but of course it wasn't official.
That day, I set out to find the perfect ring. Shea is a very gifted artist, so I knew that I had to give her a piece of art. Having no artistic skill of my own, I had to find a jeweler who could make my vision a reality. After weeks of searching, I found a jeweler in California. I could tell from his other work and from speaking with him that he'd be able to make my vision a realty, and he came highly recommended.
I commissioned the ring in late February. I told him what I was looking for and he said he'd make a few sketches for me. He got it right on first try, so I gave him the go ahead. On May 14th, I received the finished ring in the mail. At that point, I had already planned my romantic proposal.
I'll save you all of the details, but on May 16th, I met Shea at the entrance to the Arnold Arboretum, a beautiful park in Boston, which was the spot where we met for our first date. I got down on one knee almost immediately and asked her. Once she could catch her breath, she said yes and I put the ring on her finger. Afterwards, we went on a romantic tour/hike of the Arboretum that I had set up. It was a bit tough since she wore heels for the first time ever, pretty much. It was really the best day of my life, and Shea and I are so happy.
When I asked Shea what she wanted in a ring, she had no idea because she doesn't wear rings. Her only request was sapphires.
Here's the first sketch that he sent to me:
~8 weeks later, I got these pictures sent to me:

Here it is on her finger:
I think it's the prettiest piece of metal I've ever seen, even though its platinum and not INFI.
I really wish we were able to make it to Blade this year, but health and timing kept me from going. I would love to have celebrated my engagement with all of you and it would've been cool to score something to commemorate the engagement (maybe a pair of steak knives for us and a MOAB for myself
)
We have not set a date yet, but I will be contacting Garth for a cake knife fairly soon. Any ideas for a good cake knife would be appreciated. I think it'd be cool if we each had an Elmax steak knife for our dinner at the ceremony.
