So I'm looking at getting a new fixed blade for bushcraft/"survival" and I'm trying to decided between and ease 4,5,and 6 but I'm also interested in scrap yard knives as well any thing you guys recommend?

Or go the other way with. Bk 16. Of the ones you listed I think the esee 4. Would make the best all around bushcraft knife.

Survival and bushcraft are not one in the same. How do you plan on using the knife ?

I have a Guy Seiferd Survive Knive GSO 7/7 with a false grind. It is one amazing all around knife. It is kind of expensive, $260. Well worth it though. You can pick your color sheath, steel, and handle. It does takes a while. Three months is the average. Good luck.

My favourite fixed blade is an Esee 4, perfect size/weight to carry easily but stil pack a ton of knife power.
Comes with a great kydex sheath, great warranty and many different handle material /blade style / color options.

Ratmandu
Rodent 5
ESEE-6

Rodent 4
ESEE-Laser Strike
ESEE-4

My list, can't beat either company and the warrantees are great. Swamp Rat knives have much better "ergos" in my opinion but the price is a little higher and they don't come with sheaths. I've got an ESEE-6 that's served me well and it's been beat up pretty good.

Another knife to look at in your range is the TOPS B.O.B. and other popular knives (production) would include: Benchmade: Bushcrafter & Bark River Knives: Bravo 1.

Hope this helps,

Eli

I have had all the Esee knives you list. The 5 was to thick and heavy so I sold it. The 4 is a little small for my tastes but would certainly work just fine. The 6 is perfect for me, a good combination of size, weight, and durability. I really like they way Esee sets up their sheaths. BKs and any of the Busse kin would be good as well.

Survive knives are sweet - well worth the wait. I like them much better than any of my Esee's, and I have a nice collection of them too. I like the balance, size and weight of the GSO 4.1's (m390 or elmax or their newer CPM 20cv - all are stainless). If you want bigger, I really like my GSO 5.1 - get it in CPM 3V and coated with DLC/FDE and you are good to go. My .02.

Blind Horse Knives.. I have a few and they get the job done!!! John
