So i got inspired by all the stripping going on. and i don't mean all the stripping going on in moosez manboobporn shaving contest.
I decided to take it to my BK9.
One blade, don't need lots of extra stripper lying around in a container afterwards, so my brilliant idea: small can of spray-on stripper.
pants off, and ready for the stripper to go to work (who doesn't take their pants off when the stripper shows up?):
looking good so far, approx. 1 minute into the project:
but as it turns out, i am an idiot. for not getting the full can o' liquid stripper. because spray on strippers do not agree with Becker BK9 coatings. 15 minutes my left nut. it didn't touch it. so i reapplied and overnight soaked, and that got me a start. on the one side. scraped the bejeezus out of it the next morning and got about 1/3 of the coating off. so i did it again. soaked all day. and scraped again. still on side 1. finally switched to side 2. coated it and let it sit overnight again. and scraped. and coated it with stripper again. and let it sit again. and scraped some more. and got steel wool to try and work the coating off. and then got a sandpaper wheel that could attach to my drill and worked on it with that for a while.
AAAANNNNDDDDD, 3 days, 5 stripper coatings/soaks/scrapings, 2 plastic scrapers destroyed, several hours worth of scraping, and more curse words than i've spit out in the last 10 years later, a rough start:
anyone else have cats that are just fascinated with your knives? Because Biscuit the cat is drawn to knives like a fat kid to an ice cream truck. she can't stay away:
threw the handles back on to get an idea of how it would look. got some stainless steel screws to match the blade. you can't see 'em, but it also has yellow liners from Flexx:
and here's where we are now. trying to decide if i want to polish it more, or put a patina on it. i'll keep everyone posted:
