Looking for a source for a good-quality button compass. My Silva matchsafe has a nice one built in but I'd like ot find a stand alone. Suggestions?

I've got a Silva button compass which is about 20 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick. It comes either with a black face and luminicient markings or the other way round (but the rest is black plastic in either case) and it's made to be fitted on a watch strap or something. (I've got a feeling it's the same as one of the Brunton models, but with a different face.)
The "or something" can be as part of clothing, I first saw it on the arm of this kind of jackets. (Not a very good photo.)

Griffon,

I can't read Swedish but I was ROFL when I saw that "thong" like accessory for that coat. What's that all about anyway?

You don't have that kind of thing on your military field dress? We do, on some models, and we call them "bäversvansar" (beaver tails), as that's what it looks like if it's not kept in place up the back or buttoned in front.
It adds another layer of insulation, helps keep snow from coming up under the jacket and keeps the jacket in place so you don't get a gap between it and the trousers which is useful in deep snow.

How about the ball Brunton $2.99 K-Mart wonder. I have one and it goes everywhere in my pack with me. It has a safety pin attachment so you can put it on clothes. Very light but not very accurate. Still it will point within 10 degrees of North.

I have one from Coleman that is a keychain with a thermometer but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
