Recently a trading opportunity (with the excellent kgriggs:thumbup: ) came upon on my radar for a small sebenza, in bg42. Now I'd handled sebenzas and mnandis before, however I was skeptical about the cost to benefit ratio.

My first impressions:

I took the dive however, and now I have in my hands my first sebenza. Let me tell you, after playing with and disassembling it for an afternoon, I can see how it is worth every penny.

In my eyes at least, the merit of the sebenza is based on the small details incorporated into its simple design. The rounded spine, the precision ground grooves for thumb and forefinger, the rounded edges, all these small and deliberate efforts combine to really make the design come alive.

This is also my first experience with bg42, and with a little touchup, ie sharpmaker and strop, this steel has really taken a wicked edge. Very easily also, I might add.

I'm having difficulty grasping what all the fuss was about on the issue of flicking. This sebenza has the ball detent from hell. I couldn't flick this open if I threw a 100mph fastball. If my thumb is on the stud already I might as well just open it normally.

Anyway I couldn't be happier with this knife, and I'm a little scared that chris reeve is going to be getting a lot of my money in the future:D

Congratulations. A great knife with a blade steel I love.

 Yeah That!!

Everytime I disassemble, clean, and reassemble my Sebenzas, I reconnect with the pleasure of owning an exceptional cutting tool that is in a class of its own.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I hope it gets there soon!! There is NOTHING like a Sebbie!! They do call you back, when you don't have one!!

Hey BlondieAlmostEdge,
I can readily taste the love you have for that small piece of art!!!
But why would you not give us all the details, you tease?
Is it a regular or a classic?
And where are the pics???
I think CRK's are some of the finest production knives out there.

It's decidedly a regular. Pics may take a while but I think the sebbie and my zdp 189 calypso would make a fine photographic couple. My two favorite stainless steels, I think.

EDIT here's the pic, can't really decide which is sharper.

I have a Classic MM Sebenza. It's a very nice knife, however, I do not like the tip up carry. I was wearing it in my back pocket and the act of getting in and out of the car caused the blade to open in my pocket (without my knowing it). When I reached back to get the knife I cut my hand and the blade sliced through the back pocket. The same thing happened once with an Al Mar SERE which has a tip up carry too.

CRK makes great knives and they have supurb customer relations. I just won't ever buy another tip-up carry folder!

FWIW, Ciao
