I've been thinking about something, every so often in a review of a bush crafty sort of knife.
The reviewing person will drill a hole as part of review, so we see a stick or board with a hole in it.

Eeerrr...........What do you used them for ?
Never seen anything here, where a person used a hole for anything.

The closed thing is a fire board, but that's not really a drilled hole like we see in the reviews.

divot as J mentioned... also as a threading hol for a wooden or bone awl...personally I drill holes in the parts of my paiute deadfalls (it helps me get the length of cordage right) one can also use a hole as a cradle for a coal when burning out a depression for a tool. There are a llot of instances when driling a hole has proven handy for me.. but that;s just me.

Maybe it's to show in bad lighting that the knife can go as deep as you need to do, in a photographic sense by just going all the way through and shining a light in from the reverse side. It's hard to show how deep a depression is, but a hole is a hole is a hole. I'm just thinking.

I just saw a recent thread where someone used the hole for the mast on a sail boat.

Drilling a hole is a good thing, in the evolution of man’s tool use after the hammer and knife it just about had to be next in line. It should actually be part of the characteristics of a survival knife, can openers are cool but drilling a hole could be awfully handy in many situations.

I've seen a hole used for making snowshoes before. You bend the stick around and stick the tip through the hole and then bind it in place to make the frame.
