So I'm going to get a manbug, all you manbug owners out there help me out. Did you get the vg10 version or the zdp189? Which of the two would you recommend?

I would get the VG-10 version. Easier to sharpen, better corrosion resistance. You would have to be cutting a ton of abrasive stuff like cardboard for the ZDP to stand out.

Get the VG-10. The ZDP can be a nightmare to sharpen. The FRN is a very nice little knife and is super light. The G10 is classy looking but a bit heavier. I bought the G10 as I do not put mine on a key chain.

Do you think the G10 would be too heavy to put onto a keychain? It looks alot nicer so I want to get the G10 version, but if its too heavy ill have to go with FRN :thumbdn:

Def. go with the FRN...otherwise you're defeating one of the main purposes of the Manbug design, IMHO-- that being, having a Dragonfly sized edge in a practically non-existent pocketable package.

I got VG10 & ZDP models...love em both...if you're planning on just one, go with the VG10, it's a WINNER....you won't notice much performance difference with typical Manbug tasks and the buy-in cost is less...

You'll have a bit less investment in time sharpening with the VG10, also. But, I haven't found ZDP189 being that much of a bear to sharpen, either.

Had a G10 Manbug...gave it to the postman for Christmas this past year--he carries it on his route everyday...

I didn't like it because it seemed too dense for such a small knife, YMMV

I am not a proponent of putting a lot of things on a keychain because of added weight on your ignition switch and the G10 Manbug would surely add to it.

Good solid LBK, but the added weight & cost of the G10 model is not the right balance for me.

Uh, just out of curiosity . . . how thick is the Manbug? It's easy to get the various lengths (open, blade, closed), weight, and blade thickness. But I haven't been able to find handle thickness for the Manbug (the ZDP Ladybug -- .311 inches according to BladeHQ). Pondering putting one not on a keychain, but in a wallet.

ZDP-189. Super steel for a super little knife. Once sharp, it will stay that way for a long time. Price premium is not that much. My Manbug is on my key chain for those rare times that is it more convenient to access than my regular edc.

I got a Hitachi superblue sprint run Manbug, love that blade and how useful this little thing really is. To be honest, it's more than adequate for daily use for such a toy like size, you can't ask for anything sharper and it slice open anything you meet the blade with...

Definately get the superblue if you can still find one

+1

I have the ZDP 189 in my Carbon Caly 3, dragonfly and delica, the blade holds edge really well, I would say 30% longer from the way I use my knifes-- cardboard, I eat my fruit with them, blistered packs, papers (lots of them) it's kinda addictive how they slice the paper, all in all, anything I can put a knife to it I use it.

Sharpening wise, I use sharpmaker, I only use the white fine ceramic rods and polish the edges with the ultra fine rods that are sold separately ( for these blades I use straight 30 degree and skip the 40 degree micro bevel ) they come out razer sharp and the edges are fine - I do 20 passes with the fine rod corners 20 passes with fine rod flat side and then 40 passes with ultra fines on the flat side.

G10 at 1.5 ounces I don't consider that heavy, the FRN is a little less than half that. My car key weights a smidge more than that, add to that a couple house keys and another padlock key.

It is not too heavy, but it is heavier than the FRN as it has full steel liners. It is a classy knife and one of the nicest looking made by anybody. It looks, to me, like a modern take on a beautiful traditional barlow or jack. Very nice and one of my favorites.

Actually, there is a thread on here, somewhere, about using these little knives as "button hole" knives to carry concealed in your shirt.

Here's what I did with the ladybug and also my man bugs so you know it can be very useful:

This is to lock the blade and easy to put on key chains or bag, belt loop ext... And now it got balls so it's a man bug

Also gained 2 inches of finger purchase on the little thing and a lot more comfy to use

I've been considering the G 10 Manbug for a little while now, I've got 3 kids now so I figure a smaller knife would come in handy, kids birthdays opening cards and gifts instead of using my mini grip, would also work well with a suit. I'm hoping to get one for Father's Day.

I like vg-10 more than zdp as it is easier to get sharpened. For manbug, I prefer frn version more than g10.
