My third knife in as many weeks. A Gerber Freeman foldable.

I know Gerber has taken a hit since they moved some of their operations to China. However, a shooting friend of mine LOVES Gerber knives. I decided to give it a try.

I like the rubber overlay on the grip and the weight. It also came with a nylon sheath for belt carry.

The cheap TecForce knife doesn't have a blocking bar to keep it from accidentally opening. That happened a couple days ago. I reached into my pocket and the tip poked my ring finger. It didn't draw blood fortunately.

The Kershaw knife is great but it's pretty small. I have trouble gripping it properly. The Freeman has a great grip.

What's a blocking bar????? Was it included, or did you have to pay extra?????

Phew! For a minute there I thought you spent too much money!:)
Are you gonna carry it for a test run?

I have a bunch of old Gerber LSTs , Magnum LSTs, and a Gator folder that are pretty nice, but I haven't had luck with Gerber's more recent folding knives (say the last 15 years). They still offer some nice fixed blades, though. I hope this one works out for you. Let us know after you've carried it for a while.

The only Gerber I have is a mini Applegate-Fairbairn folder. It's pretty decent for basically a small folding dagger.

A folding knife should have a detent or spring that holds it shut until you open it. I would wrap tape around the closed "tec force" knife until it is nicely covered, and then deposit it in the nearest trash can.

R Rich50 , somehow I missed the turn:eek:, I thought you were talking about the new Gerber you posted a pic of having a slide lock.
Now I’m on the same street o_O I is confused for a moment.

Oh ya, the plastic blade tip stop! That stopped working on my chive when I lent it to a guy I worked with and he snapped the tip off! After that I learned to ask " What for?"!

I feel that the OP should do as you said. Then repeat just so he gets the satisfaction x2 of throwing that "tec force" away twice! Double the trouble double the fun!
Dude many of us started with that type of knife! It's all in good fun! It's a hobby (addiction). It starts as 9$ than 20$ Who needs a 20$ knife that cuts like a 9$ knife am I right? Bam! A few years later I'm balls deep in several 100$+ knives!

I like that Gerber. I've had good ones and bad ones... The USA made stuff is treating me right. Hope you enjoy yours.

Bought a knife off the exchange here one time, and the guy threw in a "bonus" knife in the box. It was a little Tac Force stiletto with a kind of modified spine that acted like a wave. I knew it for what it was, but kept it around on the desk to open mail and packages and such, just to honor the gift.

The plastic scales have broken and fallen off, but it's still on the desk. I may actually re-scale it. Won't hold an edge.

I would never buy one, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to give this gift a good home. I sincerely appreciate it.

I have one of them types only with a gut hook. Good blade but for a hunting knife the frame lock is a fail as the "Bad Part" of the knife. So it was back to Gator Blades and Buck 110s for me.

I have a bunch of older Gerbers and prefer those over the new breed, I must admit.

I sit on my porch and yell: "Get off my lawn! at the newer Gerbers - especially the BG ones:D

I picked up a BG small folder for about $15 on clearance and it actually isnt bad. I use it as a beater in the woods. The scales are a bit flimsy, but the blade isn’t bad.

I find that the new Chinese Gerbers are terrible compared to the older ones as well. I have a couple newer ones bough last year collecting dust. Not expensive ($20-30), but there are much better knives out there for the $$$.

I like the Freeman series. I have several of the fixed blades and find I like the rubber grips. I almost bought the folder since I liked the fixed blade so much. I wish I would have gotten one of the fixed blades with Stag handles. Mine sharpen shaving sharp and perform well for camping duties. Nice Blade.
