Oddly and sadly it's not an Emerson. I picked up an Almar SERE today and its THE PERFECT KNIFE for me. The G10 handle slabs are twice as thick as any other knife I've held, The STEEL liners are almost twice as thick as my 98 commander:(, The Blade is picture perfect blade geometry for my use and hase a nice "swedge" for penatration if the need ever arose. It's sharp as my straitrazor and seems to hold an edge well I've cut about 100 feet of 1 inch rope into about 500 pieces and it still almost shaves. The handle fits in my hand like it was custom made to to so. The linerlock is by far the most secure I've ever seen. And lastly the fit and finish is SUPERB! The liners and handle slabs are PERFECTLY EVEN. the liners have a nice shiny satin almost high gloss glow. The G10 is the best quality and grip Besides my BM 710. I LOVE THIS KNIFE.

Just thought I would share, Sorry too all the other Usual Suspects for the sin i have commited I shall repent and be save:):D

Oh yes, the SERE 2000 is absolutely amazing, no doubt about it. The fit & finish is custom level, and mine also takes a superb edge and holds it a very very long time.

Really, it can't be beat, especially at $120 or so retail...

The SERE 2000 is an awesome knife to say the least. Don't you wish that Emersons were built that good? :D

I absolutely agree. The liner lock is as stable as any custom I have handled. And because of the extreme strength of the handle, it is not subject to twisting, which can cause some lesser-made liner locks to fail.

Mine has been heavily used and I could not be more pleased with it. Good luck with your SERE 2000. :)

Thanks for the reassurance of the SERE2000 I had a linerlock failure last night, but it was my fault because I got copious amounts of TuffGlide on the Linerlock/Blade contact point. I didn't catch it until after I spinewacked it. I field stripped the knife to see if I could do something about the lock failure and found the liner and blade contact pints slippier than a horny 19 year old....   :p I cleaned it off and and all is well and it's bank vault solid again.:o

Hey you want a real big folder, I'll give you my Buck Strider, and I'll take that awful 98 commander off your hands for you. What do you say.

I just got a sere 2k and the lock up is tighter on it than the three emerson cqc7 that I have handled. The sere 2k has superb fit and finish.

I too, have a SERE 2000. I agree that this is one awesome folder. My only complaints with the knife are minor and could easily be fixed by me. One, the thumbstuds are a little sharp around the edges. Two, the clip is so tight that it is a little hard to get clipped onto my pocket. Both are simple fixes.

...You call the Buck Strider "a real big folder"? I guess you haven't ever handled a REKAT Sifu or a Cold Steel Vaquero Grande....

True Dan,
I meant thick. I handled a SIFU once, and just started laughing. I simply couldn't buy a knife that long.

Another convert to the S2K. You have echoed what I have been saying all along on the 2K. It is indeed custom quality all the way. A more solid and robust locking liner I don't think you will find in a production knife. What I did with mine is to put some shrink tubing on the thumb studs, works superb to take the edge off the studs. Then I put two thin strips of skate board tape along either side of the G10 handle slabs. Just gives your thumb that much better of a purchase on the top of the knife. I have found that because of the smoothness of the overall knife with the highly polished liners etc. that the grip tape helps. Also put it on my CCO and works superb too. I have chosen for an edc though my CQC7A. This is in a plain edge. This knife I think is small enough yet big enough at the same time to accomplish the cutting chores that I need to do. Not really close to the quality of the 2K. The 2K though goes into the woods with me when I am stump shooting with my longbow and sits in my catquiver as a excellant hunting knife. Keep'em sharp

PS the 2K is the equivalent of my Starmate in the sharpness catagorey

I also have a SERE 2000 and find it to be really amazing. It does not get as much daily use however, as my Emerson Commander, since the Emerson has the wave. From a quality standpoint, however, the SERE is one of the best production folders, for the money.
