I've got a dilemma. Large Congress pattern. What do you think?

I have a large Case Congress that was my father's knife. It is a large congress pattern that dates back to the 70"s. Carbon steel blades with excellent walk and talk with great half stops. The problem is that one of the scales cracked when my father was living. He always talked about getting the scale replaced but never did. Here's the dilemma, I called case and they said that they could replace the scales but they no longer make parts for the 4 1/8" pattern. If something happens to the knife during repair, they will not be able to replace any parts. Here is where I need input from the knowledgeable bladeforum members. Do I leave the knife as is or do I take the chance and have the scales replaced? Thanks for any input.

I would suggest getting in touch with one of the excellent modders that are members here. Do a quick search for mod in this forum and some names should pop up pretty frequently. I'd trust one of them much more than the Case factory with something that has sentimental value. Another member just reported on sending a sentimental knife into Queen for repairs and they couldn't fix it so they sent him a new one and threw away the sentimental one.

I agree with Cory.
Whether to fix it and replace the scales or not, it's entirely your call. Since your father wanted to do it, I would probably go for it.
Then, especially considering the answer you got from Case, I would contact Glenn and ask him for his services :)

Thanks for the quick responses. Sounds like Glennbad is the man for the job.

The man is a miracle worker. Your dad's knife will get the treatment that it deserves and come back to you better than the day it left the factory. ;)

I have had good luck stabilizing cracked scales with epoxy or super glue. I have one mother of pearl cracked scale that epoxy has held together for at least 10 years and it sees pocket carry and regular use.

Glennbads work.
