I got my D.C. Munroe Chimera Elite #2 with the gold screw upgrade today!!! It's absolutely perfect. I about fell outta my chair when I saw the price, THEN I saw the blade steel and couldn't believe it. I HAD to have one. Hopefully I can score a cf standard model too.

I know the prices went up $50, but does the website reflect that change, or are these the old prices? This is the perfect knife for me...edge holding, corrosion proof, it's got it all. Deryk is great to talk with too. He said if I didn't get this one, he'd help me score one since I just had to have one.

Thanks Deryk, NCBlades, and GigOne.

I'm personally a little bummed out, because I've been waiting 15 weeks, off a given 6 week lead time. It'll probably be about a total 4 month wait by the time I get mine.

I understand that one can't help it if they can't get materials, but it would have been nice if he had kept us informed, or gave us some options (like some other blade material at an adjusted price). I guess that's not the way it works.

Damn...sorry to hear man. Is he out of Talonite? He told me his lead time was either 3 - 4 or 4 - 5 months. (Forgot exactly.) I'm sure he'd let you subsustue the blade material wouldn't he? Maybe some S90V?

I dunno, I'd wait for the Talonite if it were me. The stuff is WIERD!!! Have you handled a Chimera before? If not...you're in for a real treat man...maybe he can toss in some gold screws for you at no cost. I normally wouldn't care for them, but I couldn't imagine this baby without them now. I can't get over how great this knife is...absolutely perfect. Hang in there man.

I got to play with a CF scale one at Dan O'Malley's back at the end of September 2000. I knew I wanted one, so I placed an order. Daniel talked with Deryk and told me that the lead time would be approxamately 6 weeks, and the current price (before the price increase) would be honored if I put down a deposit...I did.

6 weeks later I had heard nothing and had no knife. I was told Deryk ran out of Talonite, and he was waiting for a shipment that he ordered back in August. Another month went by, still no word. Deryk said he was still waiting for his Talonite order. I talked to Dan O'Malley about the possibility of using stellite (the non-talonite mix) or something else...they toyed with the idea, but said they wanted to wait for the Talonite (so all the knives would be the same I guess). Emailed with Rob Simonich in mid-December and was told a very large shipment of Talonite was waiting to be cut...I told Deryk what I found out.

In early January I emailed with Deryk and talked with Daniel...it appeared my knife was about a month out...which would put it to me just a hair over 4 months after I ordered it.

I'm not upset at the delays with the knife. I'm more disspointed by the lack of communication. I'm always the one to ininitate the converation...I have never just recieved an update of how things stood.

I wouldn't be surprised that he's now on a 5 month backlog, since I think he's got about 20 Chimera orders to fill, plus the other knives he makes.

The knife itself is very nice, and an extremely good bang for the buck...but after all the "hassle" I don't know if I'll appreciate it more, or if I'll just be kind of upset about the whole situation.

It boils down to "that's life" and sometimes "sh!t happends." I guess I have to just be more understanding or something.

Sorry for my long rant.

Mitch, I see where you're coming from man...I'd let them know my displeasure with the situation and tell them I want a straight answer, and recommend better communication in the future. Maybe it's just "growing pains" of a new maker...and a busy dealer / bladesmith? I dunno man, but I hope you get it soon, and enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Keep us updated.

Yes, Deryk was very busy with finishing building, setting up, and moving into his new shop. Daniel is very busy with his bussiness, web development, and setting up his shop.

Daniel is a really nice guy and great to talk with...but getting email response is sometimes hit and miss.

I guess I shouldn't feel so "put out" over the situation. I really like looks of your cracked titanium scales. I'm getting blue/black G10...polished if possible (not sure if the colors will smear).

I'm waiting on one and I'm behind Mitch. Looking forward to receiving this one after this report.

Very nice looking knife indeed,
can he, will he do it without the lil fishtail thingamabob coming off the rear end?

is it just meor doesnt this knife look kind of harkin-ish blade design, crackle finish?

I dunno about the Harkin-ish design, but the "fishtail" deal on the back is GREAT!!! I thought it was a thin liner kinda like the Reif Atrox, and I wasn't too enthusiastic about it, but after getting it, I see that it's a nicely contoured CHUNK of Ti. "liner." It may be a liner lock, but it's more like an integral lock with Ti. overlay. The "fishtail" is great.

Thanks TX, I see what you mean, but I don't think it's too big of a deal since, I assume, he came up with the other designs himself. That, and his designs seem unique. The guy does great work, and his knives definately aren't "knock-offs", so to me, it's not a issue. Has anynone asked Deryk if he got the idea from Jeff's knives?

Congrats on the Chimera Adam. I'm still waiting on mine. I think it's been 3 months but he ran out of talonite for a while as noted above. These things happen I guess.
