Hey guys, I'm not really well known here, but I thought this belonged here and not in the custom and handmade forum (I post there because I can't post in the knifemaker gallery).

So, hi, thought I would share my good news with you all, I'm upgrading from my handheld 3x21" belt sander.

The UPS guy brought me a 53 LB package today. What could be inside?

Let's look inside, very interesting...

You might notice that the motor is missing. Due to a mixup with the company that shipped the motor, I still don't have it. But it looks like I'll have it early next week. Guess what I'm putting together tomorrow? More pics tomorrow night.

Just for the sake of comparison, here is what I've been working with.

Only use it for cleaning up in between filing and hand sanding. I think once I get the real one set up, I'll be in "hog heaven"

Got everything set up except the motor and vfd. Mounted it to a piece of 3/4" treated ply. Looks nice, and I can't wait to get it running. As my mom said, "I'm as ancy as the little kid in the back seat who hasn't been to the bathroom in 2 hrs." - I'm excited.

The work rest set up looks kind of confusing, but it's not bad, and allows for a seemingly infinite amount of positions.

We can swing the tool arm out for an 8" contact wheel

Or the opposite way for a 2" contact.

Once I've got it set up, I plan on attaching a glass platen attachment, and figuring out a way to use a small (like 1/2" or so) contact wheel. But that's about it.

Almost there!!!!

Very nice upgrade, you will be pumping out some blades now. Tell us a little more about it, who did you get it from, cost, ect.
I know there a many here that would like to know.

I purchased it from Wayne Coe (http://www.waynecoeartistblacksmith.com/Grinders.html).

It cost $1,750, included the contact wheels, drive and tracking wheels, and the motor (1.5 hp), as well as the vfd. I looked at a lot of different grinders available, and decided that this was the best mix of cost and quality. But as others have noted, ask 10 knifemakers about grinder, you'll get 20 answers. That's just how us humans are, with those silly little opinions :D

YAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The motor came in Monday, but I was out of town till yesterday evening. So, I wired it yesterday, and mounted the motor and vfd today. This thing is really nice running, so far I'm running it at around 40% at the fastest, but am starting to become more comfortable with it. My camera was dead on battery, so no pics of wiring or mounting, but I do have finished photos.

I ordered a glass platen liner, and that came in today, and after grinding today, I can see why the glass platen will be nice, it got hot! I also grabbed some other stuff, a handful of earplugs, the cool ones with flames, and some glow in the dark paracord.

And from Amazon I ordered some safety goggles, and a respirator, as well as two extra filters.

Looking good! 1750 seems very reasonable in price!!! Looks like a 8" contact wheel? your gonna love it!!!
