I've Got This Affliction . . .

It started in May of 2011 when I dropped by the Becker sub-forum. I was drawn here because I needed a machete to accompany me on my trips to the gully for protection against briars and other undesirables. The first two machetes I tried were not worth much . . . so I came to the Becker sub-forum for advice and counsel.

After considerable research, I decided the BK7 was the correct knife for my application. Bought one in May. It did the job. Kept browsing the Becker forum and even visited the Kabar forum.

Then, in July, I yielded to temptation (again) and ordered a Kabar Marine fighting knife. Not that the BK7 needed help, but I just figured an extra knife might be handy from time to time. The BK7 graduated to truck duty; and the Marine knife rode on the throttle lever of the garden tractor. Worked out fine and I felt my knife affliction was resolved.

Big mistake.

Becker announced the BK10. I decided to take advantage of the chance to acquire a psuedo-collector's item and ordered one. Received it in early August along with two sets of scales and all the bells & whistles.

That seemed to be enough Beckerdom for a while. Made it fine until the end of August. Then continued browsing of the Becker sub-forum brought my attention to the BK5. Decided the wife had to have a BK5 in the kitchen. After all, I couldn't justify hogging all the Beckers for my casual use! She really likes the BK5 and uses it daily . . . often several times each day. When I borrowed it to take the pictures below, she told me to be sure to put it back where it belonged. :) So, there's no doubt about who actually owns the BK5!

The affliction went dormant during September and October. I knew I had all the Becker knives I needed. I also knew I had absolutely zero use for a heavy hatchet-like chopper of a knife like the BK2. So, I didn't buy one til early November. It's a beast of a knife and after borrowing a sheath revision idea from Lecter, I really like the knife. The original floppy sheath not so much.

So, this brings us to mid-November when Spark announced he was giving a Remora with renewals of a Gold membership. The Remora arrived on November 17.

All was well until Becker announced the new scales for the BK14. I had been wanting to look at one of the smaller knives and the improved scales got me over the hump.

So . . . if you value self-control and have any notion of fiscal responsibility, I heartily recommend you should stay away - - - far away - - - from the Becker/Kabar forums. Below is what can happen if you don't follows this well intended advice . . .

Another shot just to reinforce the above . . .

BK9 . . . naaah. I have absolutely no interest in a bowie type knife. After all, we are in the 21st century.

:devilish:

This is brilliant. Thanks to your post I do believe I've convinced the wife that we need a BK5 for a "kitchen" knife :D

I am now truly convinced I need a 7, lovely collection my friend; I bet it has been serving you well!! :triumphant:

the bk5 is the best. trade you wife kabar fighting knife for it.

Not likely to happen. Wife's too sharp for that. Maybe I can talk her into trying the Kabar knife in the kitchen tho . . . :)

you never know til you try!

You obviously scratched the black coating on your knives. I try to tell everyone, there's a secret ingredient in the coating that once released,
makes you buy more and more Beckers (that Ethan is a sly one I tell ya - LOL)

Good lookin' collection, () but don't get the 9, no really ... don't ... it opens up a whole 'nother level of addiction :D
