I've had no urge to buy a new knife since my ZT 560

Does that make it my (non custom) grail knife? I love everything about this knife, the way it feels, its ergonomics, the blade shape, the fit and finish, I just haven't seen a single knife since that made me say, "Wow, that's one I'd like to add to my collection."

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Good for my wallet, I guess.

To answer your question,
no that doesn't make it your grail.
It just means you found a really good knife for you.
Enjoy it and use it.
Eventually you'll come across something you want.
Especially if you're a "collector" and don't use them.

There will be something out there for you. But for now, sit back and enjoy your knife. I think we've all had a knife that makes us think "Oh, I don't really need more" and you may feel that way and because of this you don't have the desire for anything else for a while. But eventually you end up wanting something new and different lol.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a grail...for me. I've had 'em, sold 'em or traded them after a week or so. I have a ZT 0560, as new, that came in last week. It's a very nice knife...Hinderer design, Elmax steel, nice and easy manual flipper. I flipped it twice; put it back in the box. I've had two00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Hinderer XL-18's that lasted all of two weeks.

Yes, and no fair sleeping with your fingers on the keys at 2:47 a.m. A bit obsessive, perhaps? (SORRY!)

I've had knives that are "temporary" Grails, and I love 'em.
Spyderco PM2's in all of their variations.
CRK Zaan and Sebbies.
Strider SMF-NSN (U.S. Marine model-2003), SJ75 and PT. A size for everybody.
ZT 0350's, the manual flipper composite model with ZDP-189 edge.
Kershaw JunkYardDog composite with D2 edge. Cheap and wonderful.

It's like certain male medical exams. It's an uncomfortable feeling but it only last for a short while.

Eh, it's been almost a year since I bought it. I'm actually ok with not wanting another one, maybe I'll just hold out and make my next purchase a custom somewhere down the road. Sort of the same kind of thing happened when I got my BM 710, only I kept buying knives but none really matched up to it. This time I just don't want to try another one.

I felt the same way about a couple of knives. I just moved on to a different type of knife.

Haven't bought a new multi-tool (for myself) since my Leatherman Blast 9 years ago. Haven't bought a new fixed blade (for myself) since my Fallkniven F1 4 years ago. Haven't bought a new one-hand-opener (for myself) since my ZT0550. Still haven't found the perfect slip joint for me, aside from my Vic Hiker SAK.

Every so often when I get the new knife itch I'll pick something up, play with it a bit, and if it doesn't measure up to those three I'll gift it to my son.

He doesn't seem to mind.

My ZT0561 has given me similar feelings, it's like "Can that knife be better than this one?" I've only ordered 1 knife since getting the ZT0561, and that's just because as a RAT 1 fan, I have to check out the new RAT 2.

My "grail" knife, has always been a LH Sebenza, but this ZT has really put that in doubt.

For folders, the Spyderco Military has given me the same feeling. I have no plans on putting something else in my pocket.

Now look into fixed blades. :D

I've wanted a 0560 for awhile but find myself picking up other knives first(more customs).

The 560 is an awesome knife as I've handled many, but it is slightly on the larger size.

Enjoy your 560 for now but trust me ull get the itch again lol.

I get the itch ALL too often and love carrying different knives day to day.

But don't worry ull find more knives you want ;)

I've purchased several knives since my 0561, but what I did find was that I no longer harbored any desire to get an actual Hinderer. Why bother? $600-1000 for a knife only slightly better built and with a more brittle steel? Elmax is freaking wonderful, and S30V/S35VN have less wear resistance and are more likely to chip. Pass. Maybe if he was making them out of S110V, 3V, M390, S90V, or something of the sort... But S30V is something I can get in a Manix for 60 bucks. Heck, I can get Elmax in a Speedform for 65.

(As you can tell, I'm much more about blade steel and performance than aesthetics.)

Besides, I don't know if I would ever be able to bring myself to use a $600+ knife - my 0561, however, often finds itself either being used or in my pocket waiting to be used. Not only is it a sturdy knife, but it's fun to use and looks good. It's my second-easiest flipper behind my Kershaw RAM, which is almost an unfair comparison because there are springs involved (not just a detent) in the RAM's deployment although it isn't technically assisted.
