Hey Guys,

Dominator update:

I stopped by the Camillus booth at the New York State Fair. I talked to Lynn who said he was the head of the heat treating/grinding dept. at Camillus Cutlery. Very nice guy. Told me about the metal used for the blade (very corrosion resistant and holds an edge very well) and how Crucible Steel custom makes it for Camillus. Very cool...especially since Crucible is right next door to the State Fairgrounds!

He demonstrated the knife (it was his personal knife and was #8 to come off the production assembly line). He let me check it out and the knife is GREAT! I will definitely be buying one. It feels solid in the hand, opens easily and smoothly, and the assisted opening is FAST. The blade seems thick and substantial (not thin or flimsy).
This knife gives the impression that it means business and that it can be used daily for a very long time.

He also told me that in about 2 or 3 months Camillus would be coming out with another version of the knife (less expensive). Instead of using titanium for the handle, the new version will use some kind of stainless steel which will keep the price down.

btw, Lynn said his brother is close personal friends with Darrel Ralph. Now that's pretty cool!!!

cya,

Brian

Lynn is a great person.
Yes I fish and have good relations with Lynn’s brother.
Im glad you like the Dominator!
I have one here and it is a piece of excellent work
Camillus has moved the quality to the next level. Thanks!

Brian,
Glad you got to see a DOMINATOR at the fair. Lynn is a great guy, and responsible for the great grinding and heat treatment of the S30V in the DOMINATOR. I think there was a slight miss-understanding regarding the S30V,.....CRUICIBLE does make it, and they are right down the road. They have worked with us on the heat treatment parameters of the steel, but they don't make it "custom for us". Several companies, and many custom makers use this fine steel. The steel was originally developed by Cruicible in conjunction with Chris Reeve of CRK.

Also, while we maybe looking at future models, and of course we would love to get the cost down on the knife, we have nothing firm on the drawing board at this time. We certainly won't have anything out new along those lines in 2003. We are actively working on new designs though:) And, no I can't tell you what they are yet;)

Man I walked and walked looking for Camillus at the fair, gave up.I would have loved to handle that knife!!I found chickens, horses, high divers, deerheads,wt's by the boatload, overpriced rides and warm beer but no Dominator.Where was the booth????

Lone Hunter,

The Camillus booth was in the "Center of Progress" building. The past couple of times I went to the Fair, it was located in that same building. As you walk in the main entrance of the bldg. the Camillus booth is over in the back left hand corner.

It's pretty cool. You get to see and handle all their knives!

It's worth checking out next year if you go to the Fair.

Brian

P.S. You're in Webster, I'm in Brighton...we're both fellow Rochesterians! :)

Brian,Thanks.Don't go every year,if I do go I;ll check it out.

Even better we're both EASTSIDERS.;) Now if we could only get a knife shop in town.
