I've managed to cut myself already, for crying out loud!

I've owned my first knife (Manix 2 G-10) for not quite two days and I've already cut myself on the thumbprint area of my thumb (the spot that goes into the hole). :o I'm not quite sure how it happened (it what quite a shock this morning), but at least I'm well aware of the sharpness of the blade now. It bled and bled and then bled some more, but at least it didn't require sutures. I think that it is owed to fatigue and overconfidence in attempting to flick the blade open with my thumb. I'm going to be more carful now until I acquire more muscle memory.:stupid:

I think the stiffness in the opening of the blade is a contributing factor...

They say a knife isn't truly yours until you cut yourself with it.

Well you know how the saying goes "If you play with knives you're gonna get cut" I'm gonna venture a guess that most people on the forum play with knives and have gotten cut once or twice.

I know, I recall thinking the same thing this morning regarding the benefit of an assisted open knife. I gather that this provides peace of mind as to once less thing to worry about if one were to be lethally assaulted. Imagine cutting yourself while attempting to deploy the blade in the situation. The assailant would probably just laugh at the folly. Or just carry a handgun. However, there is less margin for error with a handgun.

IMO. Gun is for self defense, knife is for opening package gun came in ;)

It happens to everyone and if you continue to buy and use knives it will continue to happen.;)

You now belong to that knife. A cut is usually how I tell if I really like a knife or not......

Hey, friend, that's an old story. The Spyder-holes often are produced/sold with sharp edges around the edge of the hole. You may need to "break" that edge a bit with a tiny bit of fine sandpaper rolled around a pencil.
We all have those scars.

Interesting! I did not consider that the hole was to blame, but since the cut is almost 1 inch long I think that somehow my thumb grazed the blade. I really should not have been handling a knife in the manner that I was since it was early in the morning and I hadn't but a few hours of sleep. Its is funny how much it really shocked me with the blood all over the place (man, it was crimson). The owner of the garage (mechanic) was sympathetic but I was embarrassed because he had to follow behind me with a mop and paper towels on my way to the bathroom sink. Thanks for your comments...

I have smoothed the edges of my Spyderholes with a cushioned file or a nail buffing block my mom no longer needed. I have also used a small piece of 1000 grit sandpaper.

A green 3m pad might also ease the edge on it as well. I've got my share of scars it comes with the territory.
