I am afraid I have come down with an incurable case of SOG fever, apparently it's a terminal illness.;)
At 2300 hours on thursday the fever took hold of me and decided that I would buy a revolver. So I turned on the computer and purchased the world famous hunter revolver NIB for approxamatly $55.00 with shipping on E-Bay (How is that for a price:p). Now I sit in my house waiting anxiously for it to arrive . Oh how I can't wait to go back into the woods and use this thing:).

P.S. I will update this thread with my initial impressions upon it's arrival

Socintel, Your going to like it I think, just think of it as a regular straight knife, with a back-up survival saw hidden in the handle.

Take a moment to read your instruction manual before you rotate to the saw.

The main thing is to keep the button in the handle "depressed" until rotation is complete, and fingers away from the "top" of the "butt" end of handle (this is where the saw comes out during rotation).

All it will take is a few rotations from the blade to the saw before you can do it safely and quickly.

It is very smooth and easy to do, there is no friction or drag when you rotate, it moves very freely.

The fun part is sawing your first limb, start with a 1 inch or so until you get used to how it cuts, it is push or pull cut, and steady smooth pressure is all you need to slice through most limbs.

Let us know what you think.

Thanks for the advice robbie, and dont worry I won't cut my fingers off......

Okay not ALL the way off.;)

LOL !! the worst cut I ever got was on a cheap knife that I did not think was sharp enough to cut, and boy did it hurt !!

Cut the whole end of my finger off trying to cut hard plastic like zip ties are made of. It would not cut so I just pushed harder, it finally cut it and kept going through my finger.

Did not got to the ER, just put some tape on and it grew back but now I have no feeling in the tip of my finger.

Somehow I think it made me a better man....

Hah, I did the EXACT same thing with a sharp piece of glass... Don't ask why I was trying to cut hard plastic with glass -_-

Actually, it was more of a fidget. I happened to have picked up a piece of glass somewhere, and I was fidgeting with it when I started to push on some hard plastic with it. It didn't cut, so I put my finger on the other side of the hard plastic to support it, and well, the rest I'll leave to the imagination.

The moral of the story is: If you're holding a sharp piece of glass, don't be involved in an important conversation otherwise you might end up without feeling in the tip of your finger.

HAHA, very funny:rolleyes:

Yes it SHOULD have arrived, but it didn't. I'm still waiting as patiently as I can (which means I'm about as hyper as an 8 year old with a bag of candy:D). Maybe tomorrow.:rolleyes::grumpy::yawn:

Just a quick update,

I was getting tired of waiting for my revolver to come, so I sent an E-mail to the seller. It would appear that it was never even shipped (he had forgotten  ). He has promised me that it will be shipped out immediately. I guess this means that it will arive in the next few days (I hope):D

After hearing his response and the fact that it will be shipped out soon, I think that I am now as hyper as a 3 year old with a bag of candy AND 12 pounds of pure caffeine.:eek::eek:;)

For the worlds sake, lets hope it arrives soon.:D:D:p

Gosh ! your kidding, what a let down, your not alone though.........I have had several things happen to me like that.

This means there is more pressure on the SOG Hunter Revolver to "Impress, delight and amaze". Gosh, thats pretty much to ask you might say, not really, lets break it down........ :D

When you get the nice white SOG box, think just a moment before you open it. Ask your self, what is this knife ?...... It is a Hunting knife with a gut hook... thats all........... a good quality flat grind blade with a gut hook.

But wait, for the money you gave ($55), thats a pretty fair deal for a good zytel handled, stainless, razor sharp flat grind with a gut hook, and don't forget the lanyard hole and leather sheath.

Whats this thing ? ........... there a button here on the side of this handle, it pushes in and the gut hook blade starts to go down, but out comes a needle sharp, wood/bone saw and it rotates around and locks in a cutting position. Gosh ! What a deal, all this for that amazing price..........but just let me sit down here and really look this thing over. :D

I think you will like it, theres nothing like it around, it works very well, and is light weight.

Oh yeah the white SOG box, I forgot about that one. I will probably end up just staring at it for like 30 minutes or something. I just love the white box.:D

As for the long wait, it will probably end up making me like it even more when it finally arrives. ;)

I certainly hope so, though I have had my share of let downs, the Revolver has never done that for me, it's actually exceeded all my expectations in function and use for a straight knife.

If it was not my knife we were talking about, and I knew you a little better, I would really be razzing you about things like..........it got lost..........someone may be using your knife this very minute in another country or state...... , and they love it................ , some guy with shorts and a camo hat is carrying it on the beach and digging shells with it.............he used the saw to open a coconut, sweet milk............. :D

Just kidding........wish you happiness and hope you love it.

Robbie Roberson :D

P.S. I think tobacco withdrawal is getting to me....... :grumpy:

never shipped ?? forgotten ?? buyer left hanging ??

I gotta laugh.... been there, had that happen, though not with a knife.

I bought a beater of a pocket watch and had it sent directly to my trusted watchmaker. He got busy fixing it when it arrived...... it didn't take me long to forget all about it.

then several months later I was cleaning out my e-mail archives and found the note from him to me, that he had started the fix.
So I wrote him, "hey, remember that pocket watch....."
he was embarassed, he had gotten side-tracked and forgotten.

2 months later it arrived, just like new.....

so don't necessarily hold your breath.... but it is always worth the wait !!!

Cheers,

Carl

You forgot the worst one, what if there is some old lady using it as a Screw-driver.:barf: Or some car mechanic using it to pry the transmission off his engine block.:mad: Or, (horror), some punk trying to chisel his name into a cement overpass.:eek:

I think I had better get these horrible thoughts out of my mind.;)

Those are indeed classics, maybe on another thread, we need to start the most horrible things your knife could be used for.........The over-pass engraver is my favorite so far, even the motor block leverage bar is mild compared to this........... I can see some guy with the Double Action Revolver "Tanto" blade slowly chipping his name into a grungy concrete overpass, his name would probably be something like....... "ConcreteWarrior"..........

Robbie Roberson ;)

oh no..... THE ABSOLUTE WORST is what Robbie already does: he just polishes 'em !! Oh The Shame !!!
Safe Queens are the worst !!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Carl

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!
It finally came :D So far it looks really GREAT.

I'll try to get back in the woods when time permits (hopefully soon ;).) and write up a decent review. I will not be throwing it off any cliffs or any thing like that.... just the usual backwoods chores (Chopping, sawing, slicing and etching cement overpasses.... just kidding:D ).

P.S. If anyone has any suggestions for the review feel free to share them.

Socintel, great to hear ! :D Take it slow, learn how to use it, start off with one inch limbs or less until you get used to the way the saw cuts and then move up some.

That saw is needle sharp.......... , make steady even cuts, you don't have to press hard, it actually cuts better I think with medium pressure.

While you are using this knife, think about the fact that other straight knives have only one blade for cutting, this has two :) .
