I've tried to love it but I just can't. How about you?

The 301 is my favorite EDC Buck. No matter what else I decide to carry that day, there's always one or the other of my 301 assortment in my pocket. I decided to give the Solitaire a shot, but found out fairly soon that it just doesn't work for me. Last year when they sold off a bunch of them with the 301 blades, I bought an assortment. I wasn't sure if I'd like them, but what the heck.

Anyway, I like the feel in hand of the 301 much better. It just feels more like a "knife", but the main thing is I miss the sheepsfoot blade too much! The spey blade gets no use at all, so I know I wouldn't miss it. Now, if Buck would come out with a two blade model, clip and sheepsfoot, I think I could live with that. Anyway, the Solitare has gone back in the box and into storage.

How do the rest of you that have them feel?

Well Dave, I'm a folding lockback guy myself as you know. I don't edc a slippie for the most part but am not opposed to it from time to time. I primarily like the heavier feel of a knife in my pocket so that I know it's there. 110, 112, 500, 095, 347 and so on fit the bill for me. I have no problem with a 301, 371 and think a 307 and especially a 317 are great. That being said, I bought the 301 proto of the 302 Solitaire to have, figgering it would be realatively rare. However, I agree and find it too thin and light and if you are going to carry a slippie of that length, it might as well be a little wider and have 2 more blades for varying purposes. I like mine for its design an asthetics but never carry it.

The only one i'd carry is the bottom one ,I don't like the blue sheilds that replaced the hammer/bolt,it just looks silly to me and has kept me from buying any of those knives, its the only thing i don't care for on them, not sure why they added that and took away the classic logo?

Just as soon as I win the lottery I will have you guys fixed up. I will order a customized couple of thousand, two blade 301 and 303 sized folders with a clip and a WARCLIFF blade in a jigged bone and elk scales. An Razor can get one cause it will say 300Bucks on the shield....ha An I will only charge $ 13.13 to pay back my wild luck......

+1 on the wharncliffe. I like them even better than the sheepsfoot but I figured that since Buck has them already, they'd be more apt to be used. I don't need any bone or elk either (I take it though!), just about any scale material would be fine with me.

Don't dispair! The classic shield is still available on the offshore models and the traditional black handled series.

I've got the yellow solitare and really like the slimness of it. Most of the times when carrying my 301 or more recently my 371 I only use the main blade so the lack of additional blades on the Solitare isn't a dealbreaker for me. I like both patterns just fine.

Just my $0.02 cents, means nothin'. I can see the appeal for a single blade Solitaire model, but it's not for me. I prefer the 3 blades on the basic stockman. I own 2 301's, one of the old model and the newer in traditional black, and a model 307 from wayyyy....back. The single blade sits in a handle that seems to me personally, to be a little thicker than necessary. Admittedly I have not tried the comfort handles though. And since it was brought up, I like the "Hammer n Anvil" shield the best. What makes this "hobby" so much fun is everyones diffrent taste in a pocket carried personel tool, and you get to have so many choices.

I actually had a Solitaire for a while too, and ended up parting with it. As much as I like single blade slippies, that one was just too slim for me. That, and it bugged me that the blade swedge was ground the same as the 301. I know they used the same blades, but still..I couldn't get used to it.

i carry my solitaire everday. i have two in dymondwood, one is to carry and the other is for the collection. i loved it so much i had to get a second one just to keep in my collectors chest. i carry more than one knife, the solitaire is my small knife and i tend to get a larger one depending on the day and my mood maybe.

I have a Solitaire but rarely carry it. Gots to have a sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe. I actually prefer a Sheepsfoot to a Wharnecliffe.
