so let me tell you my story!

Some years ago I was trying to amass examples of the Buck knives with the anniversary medallion and those produced during the anniverary time...after a good amount of time, money and effort I realized that I would not reach my goal. There were some that were just out of my reach money wise.:(

After taking stock of ALL the Bucks that I had...telling myself that I had many more than I could ever use or should have and not having an attainable goal in sight I decided to back off.

I continued to lurk here and was doing fine, concentrating on other interests in my life, until a few months ago. I found this on another site and in a moment of weakness bought it.

It was followed a short time later by this. Now this one I've wanted for a loooong time, every other one was in bad shape and the seller was asking way to much for it. Not so with this and it had the sheath! I CAN QUIT ANY TIME ONE MORE WON'T HURT:eek:

Then just last week I just looked down and in the snow was this...WELL IT'S NOT LIKE I BOUGHT IT OR ANYTHING....

Tuesday I was in a Goodwill looking for 'whatever' and saw the undeniable black form the screamed Buck knife...I thought as I ask the clerk to look at it that it would be just the sheath(pilfering is rampant)...no knife. Not so the little 102 was in there and with my senior discount it was less than $8.00.:D

Then just yesterday I was in one of my favorite haunts looking for something for one of my other interests and this appeared. Needless to say that it also came home with me. It does have the brass spring keeper.:D

This Buck fever will get you when you least expect it, don't matter, and it comes back with a vengence.

So fess up has this happened to you, tell you story. I know by lurking here that some of you are hooked worse than I. Confession if good for the soul...I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. Preston

Wow Preston,

Is it really you???? Good to see you back in here with all the other Buck nuts ;).

I'll have to think on your OP topic for awhile. Then I'll post some real truth on Buck knife obsession..lol.

Yea, jb, I thought of you:p...I know you'll have a good story. Preston

Hi Preston!

It is an addiction... But I can stop any time I want...
yeah,,,right....

Maybe it's an addiction. However, it's an addiction where you can always re-sell the product at any time. There will always be a another buyer (addict ;)) out there who will pay some price for it.

That's better than most addictions.

I stressed over the Christmas season whether to get the Giraffe 532 or Rosie Kalinga as my present "from" my wife. Then the Csar popped onto the radar befor I made my decision thus adding to my consternation. I picked the 532 figgering it was disco'd and the others still available. Got some cash as Christmas gift and started thinking csar or kalinga but not enough for either, gathered a few more dollars but still about $25 short for either(both around 100) Ended up pulling the trigger on the csar and dipped in to the debit card for the difference. Wife reasonably ok with that but states "thats enough" I say ok. Then a day or so later the news of Kalinga being disco'd comes out and I begin to panic. I quell my emotions for a few days but end up checking the bay to see if prices are up and find the deal of shipped for $92. I figger my wife being the bargain shopper she is would be upset if I let a deal like that go. So I him hawed a little and hit the Buy it Now button. Then a little more him hawing and "accidentally" hit the confirm bid:eek: I tell the wife, starting with "Honey, remember how you bought that cell phone by accident on ebay...? Well I just pushed a button and bought a Kalinga:o but at least at a great price--How much?!?!?! Uh only $92.......I promise I wont buy anymore for at least 2 months:o You better not she says.-------30 days later, I hope she dont see that I'm high bidder on 2 bay Bucks:p Maybe I wont win;)

Maybe I will:D

Im so addicted at the moment. I started collecting as kind of an alternative investment idea. Now i just love well made good looking knives.

The thing is no matter what I cant get myself to use any of the knives ive bought. The only thing i have used is the Mini Buck blk which is tiny little thing that you get free when you buy something else. Ive hunted around the house for half an hour for it sometimes so i wont have to unvirginize any of my others. I have a touch of the OCD im sure.

fritz, great story thanks, I know I'm not alone here. We all are afflicted, just differ in degrees/grades.

I'm not sure about selling any...yeah, maybe, if I had dups of one and wanted a different one, yeah, or two:p.

unvirginize

I have never heard that word before and refering to Buck knives with it is just over the top:thumbup:. Preston

Preston,
Don't want to derail your thread here but the 3rd pic down is that a 181? I've been
looking at one and was wondering about them? How do you like yours? Good blade?
Thanks.

I've tried to stop several times, but I have no will power at all so I just quit trying.

Hers a tip guys..SELL one of your Bucks..maybe a extra or dupicalate..Take a lot of the cash and just GIVE it to your wife saying "Honey,I sold a extra and I thought it would be nice to give you 'some' the 'profit' I made"...Do this just once in a great while and you should have a lot less trouble buying your Bucks! This only works if you have been married less than 18 to 20 years tho.....

I've never sold a Buck knife. I've lost them, given them away as gifts, loaned and never got them back, had one stolen, but never sold one. (Never say never, though.) I just give my woman a nice knife every now and then. That shuts her up. :) If I give her that paua shell damascus 110 I figger that may shut her up for a long time. ;)

For me, the thought that I can always sell them is a rationale for buying that extra one, or spending a little more than I had planned on for a really nice one. Never sold one, but I always can. It works.

I have pretty much always gone by a rule of thumb, that I can always at least get my money back on one I buy, should I need to sell. May not always hold up on an individual knife, but might as an average. So wife has been ok with my knife fun.
