Born and brought up up in Kenya, love the big cats...

As the South African knife makers cannot sell any ivory out of the country I had taken some faux ivory to them and commissioned a Loveless style dagger.

The material is casein and is actually made from milk protein.

Neill Schutte, who made the knife and Sharon Burger, who did the scrim - both said it was like working on the real thing.

To say I'm pleased with the result is an understatement, hope you enjoy the pics...

Hard to believe these ones derived from the apex cats.

Beautiful knife, but be careful with the casein. It seems extremely susceptible to movement, both expansion and contraction.

- would guess you're talking casein of old, not the latest products/reincarnation....?

.........your namesake, next to my vehicle last week...

Great pic! Some Great Eastern production pocket knives were made in casein about 6 years ago, so pretty recent stuff. Bad record of shrinkage (bolster gaps) and splitting at pins from swelling. A controlled humidity environment is your friend.
