While I appreciate and admire all the great work Mr Ritter has done to support our rights as knife users, and while I don't think I can handle yet another interminable debate about the ivory issue in General, it seems a bit unfair to open such a hot button thread, make statements in it that many strongly disagree with, and then have it immediately locked by someone.

Maybe those threads are best left open for members other than Mr Ritter to express their opinions?

Just my two cents. Open exchange of ideas and opinions always seems to be a good thing.

marcinek,

while I frequently have opinions that do not match yours, in this case I gotta agree. To post something and then lock it so that "the opposition" can't make comments seems extreme and self-serving.

The best I can think to do is post in enough other threads currently below said locked thread to force the locked thread off the front page. I do, however, recommend that the said posts be "relevant" to the thread in which they are posted, not just bogus horse droppings.

Spark authorized Doug to post his announcements in General Knife Discussion. In unlocked threads, he doesn't return to discuss the question. Some of these have become stock propaganda exercises on all sides. We have so many more topics to enjoy, please don't obsess over any one that annoys you.

I will try not to! :D All I am pointing out is that claims like

When we are allowed the opportunity to explain the facts involved and the reality of the illicit trade in elephant ivory, in which Americans have virtually no involvement whatsoever, we have a good chance of changing the minds of those who have been mislead by emotionally charged, politically and financially motivated efforts to ban legal elephant ivory that's been in the country for decades and mammoth ivory that's 10,000 years old.

The bright light of the truth and facts can carry the day given half a chance. Like all Americans, we find the poaching of African elephants appalling and reprehensible. Unfortunately, instead of going after poachers, smugglers and traders of illicit ivory, Ivory Ban bills only attack innocent Americans without any likelihood of having an impact on the poaching problem.

may also be interpreted by some as a locked "stock propaganda exercise" that one cannot reply to.

I want nothing to do with the "stock propaganda exercises" that these ivory threads seem to turn into. But it seems some members do.

And, I would like to point out that I DO appreciate and read Mr Ritters announcements on legislative actions.
