I just got this from eBay. It was listed as "possibly Bosnian Armanian or Greek. One piece ivory hilt. 12 3/4" overall. Brass covered wooden scabbard."

The Arabic inscriptions (first picture) say "Amal (work of) Omar Sirri Abou Sinn -- 1314" last number is the date. Add 584 to get it to the Gregorian calender and you have 1898 AD.

What do you think?

I didn't know you read Arabic.

It looks like a very nice addition to your collection.
The blade may even be nicer than the handle.

Nice! Hard filtering collectible from crap in ebay; at least I can't do it.

I don't. Zifir in Istanbul translated it for me. I love the Internet!

Great, you've got my man Friday in every corner of the globe.

I sent the rug to the good lady in Atlanta, btw.

Nice catch! What is the sheath made from? The photos make it look like its covered in gator hide.

Just the suggestion of a birds head in the handle . Don,t you think ?

Whatever it is ? It is superb . It is not that a blacksmith is not an artist in metal . It is when artistry is applied to a blade that it may display a depth of character . A blacksmith may make a blade that is poetry in motion . When there is an artistic touch to it as well ? I,m blathering so I,ll stop now .
