Ivory looking handles for the Big Beckers?

I've seen many treatments for the factory black handles. I've seen plastic handles in many colors. Beautiful wood handles. All kinds of micarta. What I have not seen is a set of "faux" Ivory scales. Plastic or a legal bone. I can't imagine anybody would use pre ban ivory on a production knife like Becker, but I guess you never know.

Anyway I'd like to see scrimshaw handles on an ivory like material for the big Beckers. They look good on a 1911, I'm curious how they'd look on a BK.

Unicorn, or has anybody spotted such a thing?

Thanks

Ivory for a full size becker
a little more than pocket change for most
Schrim is Buried in a box somewhere
Best I can do as large handled ivory
1184 Ka-Bar 1 of 312

ivory colored paper micarta is likely as close as you'll find, and there are a couple of places you could get them custom made from....all of which would end up costing you more than the knife did

You can still get Mammoth Ivory...It is affordable, if you do the fitting yourself...How much material do you need? mike in ct

Nuto, thanks for the pics. Love the look of the KaBar. that's the look I'm interested in.

Col. Sir, I'm only a fan of mother of pearl in limited amounts, as in inlay work. I would be interested in seeing it though. I've read that a large percentage of mother of pearl comes from my home state of Kentucky.

Hawg, Do you know anybody off the top of your head that would have micarta like that? I've seen some micarta that was smooth that could look like bone. Good idea.

Mike, I'm not crafty enough to think about making my own scales from anything but scrap material, lol. Thanks

.Bootzon...I have some dark colored bark leftovers...The better surface material & interior high grade white stuff I'm keeping for a few special projects...I'm sending some bark out for stabilizing By K&G..Raw, the stuff is nice to work with if you can stand the smell of grinding it...Grin..Mike

Hope you are making a thread on it.

I know not ivory, but have always admired the scales on this old Cam 2:

I've put ivory paper micarta on a couple knives. Tip: don't use sandpaper past 600x or it gets jammed in the surface. You can buy it in slabs from the knifemaking suppliers. You can also probably get it in the blocks necessary to cut BK handles, but you'd have to find somebody to do it (or get shapin'!).

Paper micarta could age well enough. Of course It won't completely compare to ivory, but it may scratch the itch.

One thing with the ivory micarta is is can get very grubby very fast-unless Daizee knows a finishing trick I don't. Even the paper stuff has pores, and will soak up grease/crud/etc.
I wear gloves when I'm finishing it-and once the handle is done I don't bring the knife back down to the forge.

I've wanted bone, or bone like material on full size Beckers, too. I've since become a fan of bone bolsters.

Thanks for posting that photo. That's the look I was thinking about. It looks very nice. Is that one of yours? Did you do the handle?

Not mine, I wish. Came across it in one of my travels here on the Becker forum. Liked it, and saved the photo.
