Would it be inappropriate to start an all Ivory thread? Based on feedback, I'll close this thread or change the name to better represent the topic and pics. I just don't want to offend and am trying to tread lightly.

As one who has owned and sold a lot of pre ban ivory and Mammoth ivory it's a legitimate knife topic--IMO.

I got notice from a couple of sellers including KSF regarding the soon to be ban on interstate shipping. But there's already a ban on shipping certain auto knives and they are still shipping.

On the other hand I am against the illegal harvesting of ivory.

Thanks Mike, I'll wait to get some additional feedback before deciding to expand this or close it. I appreciate your feedback.

The simple fact is that there were many pre 1900,s and later knives that are stunning pieces of Workmanship- they were made in their own time when life and law was very different - so banning the showing of these knives would be a knee jerk reaction. Even today knives can legally be made with Ivory so?...... How can there not be a Ivory Thread.

In saying this - I stand next to Mike and loath any attempt to harvest Ivory illegally - if this was to mean for the safety of these beautiful creatures that No other knife or object ever be made from Ivory I would immediately support that - and yet still agree to the showing of knives etc made before the total ban.

Good deal Jeff, thanks. I'll close this one down and we can use the link. I sometimes wonder about the effectiveness of the search function here. I had done a "thread search" for "Ivory" and the referred to thread did not show up at least for the first 5 pages. Jeff's link is "The Ivory Thread" and it doesn't show. Anyhow, thanks and I'll close this one down, and hopefully we will see some of the dozens upon dozens that flew out of KSF's doors this evening.

Take care,
Josh
