IWB carry (what is it?)

I read mention of IWB carry. I'm guessing that's in waist band? So people clip their knives to the waist band of their jeans or whatever?

Do people find sweat to be problematic for the steels used in knives due to the salt content in the sweat? I ask because I'm down south in GA where it's always humid.

Are there other solutions for IWB like a slimline sheath or something made just for IWB?

IWB does indeed designate "inside waistband" carry.

If humidity and human sweat are that harsh, you really should consider stainless and synthetic materials. If you want to go with a sheath of some kind, then the material needs to be non-porous like kydex -otherwise you are just holding a a wet towel against the knife when you sweat into it.

If you have a carbon blade that you really must carry IWB, then you can always use car paste wax to minimize corrosion.

Spyderco Salt series. Guaranteed 100% rust-proof. I've got a Mariner Salt on its way that will most likely take up residence inside the waistband of my jeans.

I carry a .45 IWB, so my knife goes in de pocket.
Sweat can be a problem depending on materials.
The wood grip on the left side of my blaster looks
nothing like the one on the right, due to sweat.
Modern knives with good stain less blades will be okay.
Old high carbon blades will rust pretty bad though.
Just pay more attention to a knife carried iwb,
and you'll be alright.

Any recommendations as to kydex sheaths or do they all need to be custom made? I was hoping there was a generic kydex sheath that fits.

Generally speaking, Kydex sheaths are specially molded to a specific knife.

Time to embark on a home made sheath making system. Any good cheap internet suppliers of kydex?

By the time you get the tooling and kydex and figure out what you're doing, it will be FAR FAR cheaper to just buy a sheath for a particular knife from a sheath maker. And some things you can only learn by trial and error.

If you're planning on making dozens of sheaths, or more, then it might make sense to do it yourself.

I have all the tools I need in my garage and then some. I have to come up with a design first; that's the only problem. But, there's autocad for that.

Unless you're having a marathon, you should be fine as long as you oil your knives properly, I have worked out with knives IWB.

I pretty much agree with the guys above...

Kydex and IWB are made for each other

you can use .06" kydex and it be really thin in the pants

I pretty much HATE the IWB clip that you can buy, but the straps with pull the dots are off the chain

rust problem??

Wipe it down with a silicon cloth and all is well...Mineral oil works well for this but only VERY lighly applied

Sweat shouldn't really be a problem if in Kydex. Just Take care of your Blade like you would your Pistol or Rifle. If It's Carbon or D2, even S30V( I've had pitting issues with S30V) take extra care. IWB is My favorite carry method for any knife with Kydex 9-10 and under. Fighters...

Just be careful with LE. they might find it Odd you carrying a FB Fighter IWB while your at the mall. just don't act like a numb nut and you should be fine.

When I'm IWBing a Fighter( I Always have a Folder or pistol too) But CCW doesn't apply to knives. I carry my Fighter to be IWBed in the trunk and slap it on when I get to where I'm going. Just a thought so you don't get a ridiculous Concealed weapon charge and get you life ruined for a felony for nothing. Just looking out for you.

'preciate the concerns. Still in the process of drawing up mock ups for sheath designs.
