how comfortable is it to carry a gun (medium-large frame guns) all day IWB. i would think that sitting down would hurt a lot. I have never carried IWB so i figured I'd just for ask giggles and see what you guys said.

My gun is a springfield armory 1911 for any other .45 lover out there:D

The trick is that you must buy pants and belts a couple of inches to large. With a good holster, it then becomes fine.

gollnicks right about the pants/belt, and ya need a GOOD belt designed for holster use not some walmart special. a good holster helps also, and a light pistol makes a diff too imho, kahr's (P9 & PM9) and glocks (26,27,33,etc)are easier to pack than full size 1911's also. also ya gotta carry at least one reload so get a good mag carrier also. back in the day i carried first a 1911, then a SIG P220, then a glock 19, then a glock 33, then a kahr P9, then a PM9, every one was easier to carry than the earlier ones due to being lighter (and smaller of course). heck ya dont even really need a holster with the PM9, put it in your pocket and go.

i usually keep mine in a backpack/briefcase if i'm gonna be sitting a lot in an office type setting anyway, and put it on when leaving,

but with the right belt/holster/pants/pistol combo its not too bad imho.

I carry my Glock 10mm (model 20) IWB in a "plastic" Blade-Tech holster, and even with that thick pistol, its' no problem..

Age and waist size also have a lot to do with IWB carry. 30 years ago, when I was in my 20's, my duty gun was also my off-duty gun. When you're young and slim (180lbs) you can hide a 4" nickel plated S&W Model 29 in a pair of Levi's and a Pocket T-Shirt! When I went to a semi-auto, the full size 1911 was also a snap to hide.

As I got older and bigger (I finally topped out at 240lbs!) and smaller firearms became plentiful, comfort became the name of the game. A Kahr MK40 and/or a Seecamp became my constant off-duty companions.

I've lost the weight (185lbs now) but not the need for comfort. The Kahr and Seecamp are still with me.

Buy the best holster and belt your budget will allow and you won't regret it.

Not to hijack the thread but what belts do you all wear to keep the pants up and then gun hidden?

My dept issues a pretty good black leather basketweave trouser belt and I put my own buckle on it. I don't use it on duty 'cause I buy my own Safariland rig (belts) and use the issue holster and mag pouch, etc.

two of my CCW guns I carry (not at the same time) are in IWB's. Steyr in a Bladetech and 1911 compact in a Safariland. Not uncomfortable at all, depends on the lengh of the barrel (when you sit), the size of the pants, and if you ate a big dinner the night before ;) Eventually, you'll get used to it.

As for belts, find one that's ridged enough not to buckle under the weight of the gun/holster. No dress belts. I have a Galco belt (the only thing Galco I own) http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterP3.asp?ProductID=2091&CatalogID=254 which I bought on a whim. Works fine, can't complain.

i use either the wilderness instructors belt or a leather galco when dressing nicer.

They no longer seem to carry the model I usually wear, but this Galco contour belt is similar. Quite comfy, extra thick to properly support a holster, and is a nice dress belt.>

Never buy a $700 gun and put it in $20 worth of gear.;)
