Ever since I figured out what IWB stood for I'm wondering how exactly it's implemented. Does the knife go inside the pant? Does the waist band refer to the pant or undergarment? I'm confused. Anyone have a photo of how this is arranged? I'm expecting a Para Military and might have to carry it IWB at the office. Thanks. If there was a smile for awkward, I'd post it here.

It can mean pants, underwears, skirt, kilt; anything with a waistband.

No IWB pics from me, but the awkward smiley is :o I use it quite often.

I carry a knife IWB frequently. I don't have a picture either. But I place mine about 3" to MY right of my zipper in whatever pants I'm wearing. The actual knife goes inside my pants while the clip is visible outside if my shirt is pulled up. There might be a slight angle of the knife to make it comfortable, although most of the time I never feel it.

Whats strange though is if I put it to the left of my zipper it is very noticeable and uncomfortable.

Imagine you have a pair of sweatpants on without pockets.

How would you attach your pocketclip? IWB ofcourse.

In The Waistband means exactly that....clipped to the inside of waistband.

If you clip it between your belt and pants you'll have a tighter & less forgiving fit.

If you have on a pair of gym shorts or something with no belt...allows you to clip it to the waistband.

The knife does go "inside" it....as in, up against your skin...or 'roos....or pants...whatever.

It's no more/less concealed than pocket carry (for folding knives).

Fixed blade IWB carry is another story....I have plenty of pics of that...but couldn't find any IWB folder pics. *shrug*

All good posts. I don't think I need a photo anymore. I will say, unless I'm wearing swim trunks or sweats, I am not an IWB kinda person. Thanks for the clarifications. As long as there is no advantage to concealing the knife, the office and general public will have to deal with my Para Military sticking out my right front pocket.

If you wear a wide belt, the clip might be hidden partially by the belt (if it's behind the belt) and that's a more discreet carry. I do that with a knife about 3.5" closed and the clip is about almost 3" .. carry it slanted (not vertical) IWB. Very comfortable and works with IET (See mercop's post on IET)

I am glad you brought that up. At least twice to three times a year I will end up going through some kind of checkpoint and have to move it from pocket to IWB. Positioned correctly it is unnoticeable even with me holding my own jacket open and shirt up.

I used to carry folders IWB to the right (from my perspective) of my zipper. Then someone posted on this board about carrying IWB just behind the right hip. I much prefer that. Both of those options are probably best if you don't have a big gut.

I carry IWB frequently. That's about the only way I carry my Para or my Millie. I'm right-handed so I carry at about 10:00. I can reach the knife with either hand that way. I don't tuck my shirts in so no one sees what's in my waist band.

I know the original poster said he didn't need a photo anymore, but here is one anyway.

I will go almost at a 45 deg angle if it is IWB up front for folders. (it rides in the fold of your leg (yes very close to your willie)) This is good for meetings and such mostly anytime I have my shirt tucked in and don't want to show a clip. The Clip hides almost 100% behind my belt.

If at 4 o'clock, I go almost up and down maybe 75deg-80deg. Same with EDC fixed blades. (No upfront carry for Fixed)

I will snap a few pix if you still need them. Most days I like to go right rear pocket riding on the right seam. This let's me carry a slippie in my front right pocket :D

and another small barlow in the watch pocket :D :D :D

So-Lo,

Exactly. I also tuck in my shirt, and even the clip is silver (haven't found black one) and my attire is black, it's covered well by belt.

@others,
The issue with at the back (4 o'clock or 7 o'clock) carry is when you fall on your back, it might hit you (if you haven't taken it out)
