I have been scanning in pics of my Grandfather's WW2 photo album to save them. I do not have the negatives, and some of the pics look like copies of Joe Rosenthal's pics. From what I have been told he bartered for these pics. There are many more but these are cool. His nick name was JJ. Perhaps that is why I like my BA nickname.
This is Grandpa

I PS the J over my Grandfather's helmet. From what I have been told, the Corpsmen are trying to save is my Grandfather's best friend with whom he enlisted with.

Very cool Beth Ann. Its great to have old pics of family. They are priceless.
While visiting my grandmother a couple weeks ago for her 94th b-day, she brought out a lot of old pics from the 30's and 40's. Fortunately they kept them in great condition after all these years

You're lucky to have the pics. My Dad only had a couple from WWII. He was a bit older than your grandfather.

I also have his cut off bayonet.

And yes I am lucky to have had the two best Grandfathers in the world.

Thank your grandfather for his service. I've met 2 Iwo vets locally. One managed to go 10 days before he got shot. It was a real bitch.

My dad missed Iwo, being otherwise indisposed on another island. He did make Pelileu. At the end of the war he was in China and has some great pics of the inside of the Forbidden City.

Dad stroked 10 years ago and lost part of his memory. He came out pretty good otherwise, but has large gaps. He was here last year and I gave him a book to read on the Corps, based on interviews with DI's. He got a whole bunch of memories flooding back in and for the first time opened up about what he did during the war. It was kind of neat.

I got Dad's guns. A .45, a snub nosed .38, and his folding stock carbine. I've never shot the .38 but the .45 is a hoot.

Good to hear that you have his guns!!! I am fortunate to have my both Grandfather's tools. They wanted me to have them.
My Godfather gave me this.

Awesome pics. Thanks for everyones relative for the service in the "last good war". Anymore no one really cares about what WWII was about or what we did or anything. Its sad,but true. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics. I am reading Flags of our Fathers right now. Heroes all of them.
