that rooster comb is sweeet! I've been looking for that pattern of knife for a while, but they always go out of my budget

I really like that rooster comb, its a new one to me. and the ebony on that pruner! some day I'm gonna find a use for this piece of ebony I've got sitting here. too bad its probably not thick enough for anything but inlay.

Excellent show of I*XL knives, thanks for sharing, the blade on that pruner is rather grand. is that model covered in the 1885 reprint catalogue?

What a wonderful bunch of knives! I'm assuming it's Tony's collection!?

I see it on a page marked "Plate 2" as pattern 187. This one is ebony but it was listed as being available in Cocoa and Stag and is the only one with a match striker pull.

That ebony pruner is the only one I have ever seen like it. I saw a picture of it in the old cat then came across it at a little swap I was at. It needed some work so I fixed it. 30 years ago people would have saidI messed with it but now they would say it was professionaly repaired. It is the only pruner i've seen with a long pull. Anyway, it's better than it was.

I'll second that MM let me know next time you see one available and we can go in together...I get it first though...

That's quite a pruner!

I, too, would love to get a rooster comb (Bernard calls this the Farmer's Jack) in good condition. Sadly, they always exceed my budget.

That coffin jack isn't too bad, either.

Here's an IXL Schrade Wostenholm Canoe with very fat stag handles.

Not a great picture.

A beautiful group of knives. Thanks very much for showing them. I have the same fixed-blade 'Cowboy Bowie'. I showed most of my I*XLs in the Wostenholm Gardening thread if anyone is interested. Here are two pen knives I haven't shown yet. The little pearl handle has the early Firth stainless blades.

The joint on the big pruner was completely worn out and the blade would almost swing free. It also had a big groove worn in the spring, but the blade was full. The swedge was messed up from a grinder. I took it apart and had a friend build the tang back up witn a hard aloy weld and fill the groove in the spring then refitted it back in the knife. I had to put a light grind on the blade and re swedge it. I really did bring it back from yhe grave, but it,s much better now and looks good. It is quite useable and really works good. I think it,s better to fix a knife like this, even if it,s not completely original, than to not fix it. That,s my story and I' stickin to it.

Nothing to add really but great old knives deserve a bump now and then :)
