Took the Saiga (AK 47 type) 12 gauges to the desert yesterday with my partner. I had just fitted (tweaked) two of the Centerfire 12 round plastic drum mags to fit both our guns and we also took 10 round standard mags.

The standard mags performed flawlessly and kicked out ten rounds of OO and Nr 4 buck as fast as the guns could be fired with zero function problems (the Saigas are heavy enough so rapid aimed fire is possible). I shot thirty rounds at high speed and have only a faint bruise and no soreness at all today in my right shoulder. This is one mean shotgun.

The 12 round drums 'fumbled' the first couple of rounds when fully loaded but did great with ten rounds loaded instead of 12. Still, there's a distinct advantage with the drums because they are a neat little package right up under the gun rather than a foot long mag sticking out to hold 10 12 gauge shells.

Anyway, super pleased with the Saiga. It just plain shoots and the rifle type sights are a real plus. Shooting at 100 yards into a dirt berm, you can excavate sizeable holes with buck shot and rapid fire. What this would do to something live would be gruesome to say the least.

I've been thinking of geting one. mainly becouse they are cheep semiauto and the ak platform is undeniable. does the gas op lessen the kick, are they accurate.

Yup...the versatile AK action. About the only firearms action I know that has been used in pistols, rifles, shotguns, machine guns and even underwater weapons and still work just fine.

Yes, to me, recoil was very manageable. Due, I think, to two factors: (1) the gas operating system; (2) the gun is fairly heavy. I haven't weighed it but it certainly has a fair 'heft' to it although balanced and easy to carry. BTW, I've mentioned this before but the Saigas do have a gas adjustment device at the end of the gas tube. You can adjust this for heavy or light loads to ensure function.

Got any vids of an AK action 12ga.? Also... who sells them? Father's day is coming up you know...:D

Who sells them? J&G in AZ, Bill HIcks and Company, CDNN sometimes, and many others.

Nice! I've been wanting one of those Saiga 12s, but I think my wife would divorce me if I came home with a toy like that. Cheap too. I also have been thinking about their 7.62x39 offerings. They don't have a pistol grip, which in NY is nice since we're a ban state and that gives me one "evil" option to play with.
