Legal disclaimer: The following may or not be true. (Nudge nudge, wink wink)

Yesterday I was flying out of Roanoke and flying out of town since I had finished up classes. Before I left, I was sure to put my pocket knife in my checked luggage and kept patting myself to make sure I didn't have any other sharp objects in me.

I got through security no problem. I brought my laptop with me and so of course I had to take it out through security.

When I was at the end of the table past the xray machine putting my laptop back into my bag, I realized that my Izula was at the bottom of the bag  I always keep the Izula in my bag since it's nice to have a reliable blade in case something happens. I didn't say anything since I didn't want it confiscated and obviously I had no intention of causing harm. I was just absolutely shocked that my Izula passed through an XRAY MACHINE with no problems. Granted I had a lot of power cords, books, and a dvd in my bag so I'm sure it all looked like one big mess.

Izula 1 TSA 0. How's that for big government keeping the skies safe?

Anyway, this is just a "hypothetical" story that I thought you might enjoy. Don't try this at home.

I went through just a few weeks ago. They let my wife and kids go around the scanner and had me go through it. Then they questioned if I had something hanging around my neck, which I didn't and showed them by lifting my shirt, and they still patted me down! Oh, and the hype about only guys watching guys on the scanner is bull. I had a girl watching my junk! I fully support TSA and the insane task of keeping our skies safe, but I know some TSA folks and they don't really impress me.

I hope this thread does not go stupid....

I am glad you did not lose your knife, and that no harm was done to anyone.

Yeah obviously the point of this isn't to bash TSA or find ways around the security. Just a story you guys would enjoy. I don't condone trying to bypass TSA and I definitely won't be making this mistake again

I've taken knives through TSA in the past by accident. They really don't have a good track record.

On a recent flight, I...er...a friend of mine left his leatherman in his carry-on. When he learned of it, he decided that if TSA made him give it up at the check-point, he'd just throw it away.

3 airport checkpoints later, it was still in the carry-on. I'm not sure about these people.

My wife flew from Houston to Philadelphia with a S&W 642 in her purse last June. Freaked her out when she got to her hotel and found it. Luckily, I have an 01 FFL so she was able to just FedEx it back home.

These people can take knives and guns, but I get one of these confiscated as well as patted down while in uniform because my ribbons and shirt stays set off the metal detector... unreal.

Remember those Glock 40's and Izulas going through undetected next time TSA is patting down your wife or has her go through the nudeomatic scanner.
Total waste of time.

My Grandmother accidentally brought a lighter on an international flight once. I also know someone who accidentally brought a folding knife through security on an international flight, only to have it found in the UK on his way home. The people that found it apparently have had lots of problems of banned items not being found from the same airport in the US. Way to go TSA!

You're lucky you didn't get cuffed and stuffed. And TSA is giving a WHOLE new meaning to the term stuffed. ;)

Wow this really is an interesting thread.

I am in the crowd of those that have had the nth degree of inspection reign down. I have had agents closely inspect my money clip (binder clip found at any office supply store). They looked at it as if it was a bomb fuse or something. They have also taken my medications under heavy scrutiny (3 doses of ibuprophin).

I hear about guns going through and am shocked. I dare not have a spent casing on my person!

The illusion of security is all the TSA can create. After having worked at the airport, trust me, any focused individual or group can do whatever they want. It's all a show to make people think they're safe. Some of the people I know at the TSA couldn't get a job as a mall cop.

According to TSA rules lighters are not supposed to fly, and I had one go through 2 airport security gates before I realized I had it.
