since ive heard so much good about the izula and have been wanting a small fb for awhile i finally ordered one yesterday. i also ordered the new scales from derrick at ksf. now just waiting but has anyone had any experience with the new scales or just the knife in general good or bad? just curious.

I think you'll find that the Izula is a very popular knife around here. I have one and like it a lot. As far as the scales, I haven't heard much feedback about them yet. Let us know how you like them.

Love my Izula, and the scales make it darn near perfect! I much prefer them to the para-cord wrap I had on it.

Just my opinion, but I was pretty disappointed to see how short the scales are. Does it have to do with being able to still fit the original sheath?

Got my scales from KSF also. I had to wrap the back with paracord because the difference with the scales felt to abrupt to me. I think I actually prefer a full paracord wrap but it's one of those things where you could get used to either way. The scales are very reasonably priced though so when you have 3 Izulas like I do it's a no-brainer to buy a set.

I won't order the Izula with scales right now because my cc has to go through an obligatory cool down period :(.

I sure like my Izula wrapped, but I think I am going to have to try those scales... I mean, options are good right?

It would be a nice option if they also offered a full size set that went right to the back of the handle eh !

Nope they just sell them coated.
It would be easy to strip the coating and have it bead blasted though

Lol I already had a BK2 bead blasted and two others are out right now getting the same treatment. I keep this up I could have a custom knife made from stripping and BB costs ;)

+1 . Although I think I'm getting used to the scales now.

At first, I thought I actually might prefer the wrapped handle after all. But the other night I did a bit of work on a spoon with it, and you can actually get a decent three finger grip on it. The comfort seems to grow on you. I think yes, it would have been better with full handle scales with a cut-out for the hole, but it still feels as good as is.

The biggest advantage for me is cleaning. I HATE re-wrapping that thing, even though it's not hard, it's just a PITA to do every time you gunk up your wrap with something. With the scales, no problem :).

Same here, after dressing out a deer with a para-cord wrapped Izula, I swore to never do that again!!! :)
